Is that how the MLB draft normally goes...just draft a crapload of pitchers?

Nope, just how the Jays do it. You can never have too many arms.
Marcum is about what most of the top end picks we made project to become, and we got one of the best prospects in all of baseball for him, and we didn't really lose much from our staff by trading him.

Heard an interview with Beede last night and it sure sounds like if the Jays throw cash at him, he will sign.

AA was on the radio yesterday and was saying that they could've taken players that they could be sure to sign, but they aren't as good players than the ones they decided to take. He figured that even if they only sign 5 of the top 8 that they're better off with the upside guys that the more developed but easier to sign guys.

Tim Erixon is living proof of the risks involved. Its a great idea, and if you have a farm system stockpiled with talent like the Jays do - then I'd agree. The Flames' farm system isn't even in the same realm.

So Escobar is day to day now and Arencibia has a minor thumb injury - which makes me ridiculously thankful Lind's back healed or or the infield could look like this;
Nix-McCoy-Hill-Rivera/Encarnacion
Molina
Fortunately Lind is back, Arencibia and Escobar are short term with minor injuries and Lawrie is about to get called up because that would be one of the worst MLB infields I've ever seen.

When did Arencibia get hurt? I thought he played the full game yesterday as the Catcher?

According to sportsnet he re-aggravated a thumb injury from last week and his status for today is unknown. It looked in the game like he just has a cut on his thumb or something and you're right he didn't come out so hopefully its brushed off and he plays.

IIRC he took a couple fouled picthes off his thumb while catching, probably just bruised-swollen.

Yeah, they asked JPA about his thumb in the post game interview, and he admitted it hurt and felt like ti was going to fall off.
I wonder if he's a guy they think could hit enough to warrant a position conversion. It's great to have a productive catcher, but man do you ever take a beating playing that position. I wonder if a guy like Arencibia could be a LF or 3B if they felt he'd take too much punishment behind home plate.

I generally disagree with this sentiment. Maybe have him start in LF or DH once in a while, but moving him from C to LF also moves him from being an offensive juggernaut (potentially/ideally) to above-average.
Posada would have been a fine player for the Yankees as a 1B or an outfielder, but that would have meant that a guy like Damon doesn't play.
Even Mauer in his MVP season: a .936 OPS is terrific by any measure - and spectacular as a catcher - but if he's playing LF every day then there's an argument that a CF with an .899 OPS is just as valuable (like Wells that same season).

Not anymore:
" Brett Lawrie's ascension to the big leagues with the Toronto Blue Jays has been pushed back indefinitely after a small non-displaced fracture was discovered in his left hand. The injury, initially identified as a bruise after the Canadian third base prospect was hit by a pitch May 31 with triple-A Las Vegas, was found through a CAT Scan taken after swelling in his hand subsided. Lawrie will be sidelined for a minimum of 2-3 weeks."

Total days - Ant has talked about how waiting for Super 2 is silly because players are often bounce back down to AAA.
