He has played catcher before . . .

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pablo_Sandoval

Sandoval began his professional career as a catcher in 2004 with the AZL Giants, hitting .266 with no home runs and 26 RBIs in 177 at bats.

On defense, the Giants have used him as a catcher for pitcher Barry Zito,[4] who gave Sandoval the nickname Kung Fu Panda.[3]

Nice! They should put him as the new catcher now

Keenan Cahill is far from your average high-schooler. For one thing, he has overcome incredible adversity, suffering from a rare genetic disorder called Mucopolysaccaridosis (MPS-6) since birth.

For another, at the young age of 15, Cahill has already achieved international superstardom- all from behind a webcam in his childhood bedroom no less.

Baseball's San Francisco Giants became the first major sports franchise to record a video for the It Gets Better Project, an online campaign that aims to curb suicides among lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth.

Pitcher Barry Zito appears prominently in the video, shown below.

Mariners are still on their torrid pace. Best team in the MLB the last month?

Mariners and Diamondbacks are hot. Arizona has won something like 14 out of 17.

Mariners won again, 7-0. Lots of homeruns lately.

If they win against Tampa again tonight they'll have won 6 straight series for the first time since 2001 when they won 116 games.

Chris "Mad Dog" Russo, who is probably one of the biggest Giants fans in the media, most outspoken anyway, said he is embarrassed about being a Giants fan right now referring to the Giants handling of the Possy / Cousins collision.

Why? Bochy is the only Giant to speak badly about Cousins, and he apologized for it.

Brain Sabean was one of the top sports stories on Friday in the US.

http://www.google.ca/search?q=brian%...N&hl=en&tab=wn

Joe Torre had a talk with him, and there was talk of some sort of discipline. It looks like Sabean has apologized to Cousins in the mean time.

It certainly is an embarrassment for the franchise and it's fan base. They're issuing death threats to a guy who did everything under the rules of Major League Baseball. Scott Cousins did absolutely everything right, and has been said numerous times, if Posey makes that catch - Cousins is out by a country mile. If he were to slide into home and be out by 10 ft, Cousins would be on the first plane back to AAA.

It's unfortunate that it happened to one of the leagues biggest stars - but it's baseball. Same thing happened to Carlos Santana last year - were Indian fans clammoring for rule changes and heads to roll? Nope. The same thing happened to a catcher (forget who it was), days later - was barely even talked about. Unfortunate - yes. But by no means does Cousins deserve the verbal backlash from Giants fans/employees. Played the game the way it should be played.

I think it was Sabean that made the comments I was thinking of then, not Bochy.

Oh well, the idiot GM has a ring, has sold out every game this year, and will likely earn more rings in the next 10 years.

Has anyone ever studied how much NL pitchers stats are inflated by pitching to other pitchers?

You can also look at the pitching stats by year.

http://www.baseball-reference.com/le...AL/pitch.shtml

http://www.baseball-reference.com/le...NL/pitch.shtml

Depending on the year, the NL has a lower ERA by roughly 0.1-0.5

It can be pretty difficult to quantify as well, as the AL is arguably a better league, which has more talented pitchers.

And, although the sample size is small, Halladay seems to be even more dominating in the NL and striking out more batters.

Just to change direction slightly, the team the SF Giants (unfortunately) beat in the World Series last year, the Texas Rangers, showed a high level of class (IMO) by drafting recently paralyzed Johnathan Taylor in the 33rd round of the MLB Entry Draft.

Quote:
Heck, the Rangers will be admired across the whole country, really, after they used their 33rd-round selection in MLB's amateur draft to select Bulldogs junior outfielder Johnathan Taylor on Wednesday afternoon.
Normally that wouldn't be very newsworthy, but Taylor is paralyzed from the waist down and confined to a wheelchair after a tragic on-field collision with teammate Zach Cone in early March.

Well as of today, the Red Sox now have the best record in the American League. It only took them 6 weeks to make up for the 3 awful ones they had to start the season. You had to know that team was too good offensively to slump forever. Although Dustin Pedrioa could start producing a bit more for me. Between him and Jeter my middle infield has been pretty unproductive for HR, TB and RBI this year.

I too would like a bit more offense from Pedroia, but with Gonzalez, and Ortiz swinging the bat they way they have been his offensive struggles have really been masked. The Redsox really are a different team now then the one who had that awful start.

What % of an NL pitcher's Ks come from striking out pitchers?
