The BBC believes most people will have read only 6 of the 100 books here. How many have you read? This list is based on the popular Facebook meme. It's not affiliated with the British Broadcasting Corporation.

Probably a number that tells a greater story is film adaptations watched to books read ratio for the same list of titles. In that case My ratio is well over 4 despite reading more than the base level of 6!

			At a glance I'd say 18.
I actually just finished The Great Gatsby yesterday. It was good but not great. It wasn't exactly earth shattering but I definitely enjoyed it a lot. Now I'm reading the Hobbit and Heart of Darkness again. I really hated Lord of the Flies and Brave New World when I read them years ago in school. I think I'm going to give them another go now that I can relax and read them.

haha why don't you just count how many you've read instead of guessing? It'll take all of one minute.

The number that I read because I wanted to and not part of a school assignment: 4

The number of those 100 books for which I've seen at least one movie adaptation: 16

I did the same thing with Wuthering Heights. I tried Watership Down a couple of times as well and couldn't get into that one.

			22.
Reading that list makes me want to re-read some of them!

I'll admit that most were read as part of school, but that doesn't change the fact that I enjoyed many of them.

I've only got 10, which, if you count how many books I've read in the last 15 years, is surprising... until you realize that I read mostly the Star Wars novels or autobiographies.
I know a few people who have read at least half of that list. I probably know somebody who has likely read the entire list, and if they haven't somebody is probably working on it. (I work with a lot of librarians)

Well didn't just make up a number at random.

I went through the list quickly and counted but I didn't check and recheck to ensure that the number was exact.

Would it matter? Are you that interested in my number?

The problem is that when the book is repeatedly referred to as the greatest piece of Am. Lit. of all time I have pretty high expectations. This happened with Lord of the Flies, To Kill a Mockingbird, Brave New World as well. I didn't enjoy any of them and I think expectations were a huge part of that. I actually did really like Gatsby but greatest ever? I'm not sure.

On the other hand Heart of Darkness and 1984 are two of my all time fave novels that did live up to their billing.

I can honestly say I have picked up 29 of these books, but only completed 28. To this day I cannot get more then halfway through Joyce's Ulysses without giving up, I am simply unable to get into that book.

			16.
I just recently read a few Mark Twain classics (didn't read them in school for some reason).

 AWESOME!!

I also went back and read Catcher in Rye and Animal Farm. Thoroughly enjoyed Animal Farm the second time around, seeing as I hated having to read it in Junior High.

The Great Gatsby is the only novel I've read more than once and I've read it three times. It's my absolute favourite book. There's a new movie coming out, too.

Brave New World is awesome, too - you'll probably like that on a second read.

On The Road is one of my favourites on that list as well.
