Default 2011 Stampeders Thread

Camp is a few days away. Time to get down to football.

Edwin Harrison is out, tore a pec muscle training, we need to replace him.

Looking at the roster, talent wise we are the most talented team in the CFL. A lot of returning players, and players who came in halfway through the season, should give us a chance to be more consistent down the stretch.

Coaching, and talent wise this is a 15 win team.

Still lots of questions in the secondary in my opinion. I'm thinking a 13 win regular season.

^^^ Lets go Esks....all the way to the basement.

I don't see the Eskies challenging anyone in the west this year, BC is still better and they wont catch Saskatchewan or Calgary unless one of these teams is decimated by injuries.

Awesome, im stoked for the season to get going.

Should we make a seperate thread for the 2011 CFL season or merge it with this one?

Heres the one from last year, we pretty much discussed everything Stampeders/CFL in it and then made Gameday threads.

I think we should keep this one, let the Riders have there own thread I don't want to read there drivel in here.

In regards to the DB position, I am very comfotrable with what we have. Sure Anderson and Browner played real well, but they also got burnt a lot, and took a lot of penalties. Sometimes change is for the better.

Last year the talk was all about the offensive line, we lost Soup, and Newman to retirement, and we started off 9-1.

If anything coach Huff knows how to take a glaring weakness, and not make big splashes, and quietly turn it into a position of strength. Our offensive line depth really payed dividends last year, we could trade a starter Newman away, bench a guy like Mydelton halfway through the season and still end up the best team in the CFL.

Brandon Issac was really good last year, Johnny Dixon has good upside, and we also added experience in Tisdale. We should be fine defensively, it all starts up front anyways, I think the biggest question mark is replacing Johnson thats a massive blow.

Cory Mace showed a lot of promise last year, and hopefully he can turn it up. Charleston Hughes is also a major part of the defensive line. As long as the pressure from the defensive line remains the strength of the defence, our defensive backfield will fare just fine.

I really think there are going to be a lot of surprises this season for the Stampeders. I am pretty anxious how the rookie OLine will play this season. Bender, Deane and Wilson. I think all 3 of them will make us forget that we lost an all-star OLine Ben Archibald. The Canadian receivers Forzani, Parker might give some of the veteran receivers not named Lewis, Rambo and Bryant a run for their money. Taylor will make it as punt returner and Forzani as his backup will make Deon Murphy expendable. On RB position, i don't see a lot of changes here with Reynolds, Cornish and Cote. St. Pierre might make it as a good backup FB for Cote while Matt Walker might play a lot more on the special team. I am sure Huf will give him some plays once in awhile.
I am pretty excited to see the Canadian talent on the DLine as well. The rookies and Mace will duke it out. I don't see much changes in LB positions though but I am sure we will see some surprises as well. DB is going to be an interesting battle. Both corners are gone so we will see some good fight for the DB position. I like Isaac and Dixon last season with their limited duties. I see Isaac will be fighting for LB position though. I think both Fraser and Allen will be a lot better this season after one year experience. Allen is a fast guy and looks like Fraser is a smart player. Going to be interesting this training camp.
Special Teams will be the same and I think we will see a big improvement here. Maver had some rough games last season but I am sure with one year experience under his belt, he'll have a better and more consistent games. Dales and Chevrier will always be the same and these two gets better every year. I think the big plus here is the return team. Larry Taylor is more explosive than Murphy and he will find the hole. Murphy was good at the beginning until he decided he doesn't want to run in the middle and just want to go out of bounce right away. Johnny Forzani will be use more as a returner this season and Anthony Parker will probably spell them out once in awhile. On QB, we all know Burris and Tate will be #1 and #2. I am kind of looking forward in seeing the battles for 3rd spot with rookie Canadian Sinopli, rookie import Gachette and Reggie McNeal. I think Mcneal will make the team eventually either as a QB or a receiver.
I am really excited.

stoked for the upcoming season, CFL really does a good job keeping me interested while the NHL is off. I have high hopes for the stamps this season, and i am really hoping to see Sinopli grab the third string position. Also excited to see what Parker can do

Forget Glover, the Stamps have signed Saleem Borhot (S-LB) who was cut by the Esks yesterday.

I wonder if Hank ever found what Reggie left in his locker after the Heritage Classic.

I thought Borhot was released because he did not passed the medical.

Its interesting because the Esks claimed he failed the physical but both Borhot and Jason Barnes have since said that the Esks just wanted them gone. Borhot feels he didn't fail the medical. I would guess he would have to pass a medical with the Stamps before getting on the field?

Jonathan Hufnagel knows what he is doing. Pumped for the season.

Just watching this pre season show on TSN, lots of positive talk about Calgary other then Chris Shutlz who is always negative about us. I hate his face.
