Quite a few years back (I believe around 2005, 2006 or earlier) the city of Abbotsford was in talks with the Canucks organization about owning and establishing an AHL franchise in Abbotsford.

The Canucks organization said no to their proposal and decided to re-sign a contract with the Moose.

Therefore, the Canucks had their chance to have an AHL team in the Fraser Valley and decided it was better to keep their prospects in Winnipeg.

Well either the Canucks or Abbotsford would have had to buy a team for that to happen. Whether they had a chance to do this, is debatable. It sounds to me that it was more a feeling out of the situation rather than any serious talks.
