Yup this was posturing and a game by Erixon and his agent to make sure he got to go to N.Y.
They kept giving different reasons not to sign and once the Flames would fix those reasons the would make up another excuse to keep the process going along.
It let things get to the last minute where Sather was able to call at the last minute and get the guy he wanted since the Flames were in a tight position. If he wanted to play here he would have signed the maximum rookie contract that he was offered.
This was a plan all along for Erixon all along and he played it perfectly.

I've never been a big fan of Feaster's, but I've got to hand it to him he was able to turn a horrible situation in to a great positive. I like having 3 picks in the top 60.
Everything that is coming out is pointing that all the fault of this lands solely on shoulders on the Erixon clan. I don't think anyone can blame Sutter or Feaster for this, as it's pretty clear that they (including their agent) sandbagged the organization.
Any kid who gets drafted in first round should be THRILLED that they are selected and not pout or complain about what team. It's an opportunity of a life time, just look at Ray Ferrero's kid - Landon Ferraro. The kid was projected to go high in the first round and TSN created a Twitter account to let him tweet about his experience and guess what happens all 30 teams pass over him and he's sitting there dejected in front of the camera. I'm sure every kid has a team that they would love to be picked by, but when it happens most kids will be ecstatic just to be picked in the first round. It's an honour and it's never a guarntee.
As someone else mentioned Erixon took advantage of a bunch of beneficial factors to get what he wanted. The problem is that this kid isn't at a point in his career to get what he wants, he hasn't done enough to warrant that kind of respect.
It makes me question this kids drive and personality. So if for some reason Erixon doesn't pan out as well as he's projected, the Rangers are now stuck with a kid who doesn't want to play for any team?
With all the information coming out, I'm not as frustrated about these events as I was a few hours ago, when it looked like there was some incompetence on Feaster's part.
Now, I'm in the good riddance side of the fence and I look forward to what Roman and Howse bring to the Heat and hopefully the Flames in the years to come.

Feaster offered the limit $ wise for 3 year contract + full bonuses. Not about money.

Agent to Feaster: "If you had your track record established..." (RE: Erixon not being given a fair chance here)
While this debacle is 100% on Erixon... I think the Flames have to acknowledge these concerns (and they sort of did, like the Bouwma late season promotion)
Feaster: "Under my watch, this won't happen again." (sounds like a politician, but whatev)

Sounds like it wasn't a failing of Feaster, or a failing of the Flames org, (although maybe their immediate history didn't help) but a failing of Erixxon's character.

The Flames lost the rights to Bennett, Bjorklund and Dielert (thought we lost his rights last year?)

yeah, listening to Feaster, we can all come to the conclusion that the Erixon family just played the Flames. They didn't even bring the concerns forward until late, and then when Feaster addressed those concerns, they brought up more concerns.
Whatever. I hope Sarich/Jackman destroy this little girl. Hopefully the Islanders keep the gooning up this year.
Yeah, I'm bitter - and I wish absolutely nothing but the worst for Erixon.

The NHL should stamp out the possibility for this kind of crap to happen. I know someone made a comment about servitude earlier and I don't know if the NHL needs to go that far but they definitely need to take some steps to prevent teams from being able to get hosed like this.

Erixons concerns seem legit but leaving the Flames in the lurch sucks and shows poorly on him.

Wow....takes a lot of balls for a rookie to concern himself with his team's cap situation. Just.....wow.
The Flames are a great organization with the classiest captain in hockey. Erixon clearly doesn't fit.

Yuck. What a mess made by the Erixon family. It's obvious they were just looking for a way to get Tim to the Rangers.

Yup, really sounds like Erixon didn't want to play anywhere else but NYR. It doesn't look good on his character. Red flags going up I think, glad he's not here.

I think we may have dodged a bullit. I mean if his character is such that he looks at the veteran and quality dmen the team has, and comes to the conclusion that he doesn't want to get stuck behind them, instead of coming to the conclusion of being able to learn from them, well good riddance.
Can you imagine a forward rookie thinking "oh Jarome Iginla is playing there, I don't want to get stuck behind that bum"!

Tanguay and Karlsson being worked on now. Soon to start neg with Carson and Pardy. Babchuk seems to be lower on the list, talking about tag room, that will happen at the end of the month.

I would rather they give Brodie a chance then re-sign Pardy

While i do not think Erixon was right with his comments about cap situation and rookies not getting much of a chance to play, i will say that the fact that could be used against us is D. Sutters fault.

- Bennett, Dielert and Bjorklund will re-enter draft. Flames didn't even offer contracts to these players, don't think they will ever play in the NHL.
- Been going back and forth with Karlsson and Tanguay with offers and counters
- Looking to start negotiations with Pardy and Carson soon
- Babchuk will be more difficult because of limited tagging room, but may try and get something done later in the month
- likes their pick situation now, and will try to get a 5th back as well as a 7th. Told the scouts he owes them a 7th because he traded for a broken down Freddy Modin

they fit fairly different roles on the back-end, I don't see it as being either or.
Regehr - Bouwmeester
Giordano - Sarich
Pardy - Brodie
Carson
(...that's not a very mobile d-group)
With the people Feaster is talking about re-signing, he's gotta be thinking that he'll be making trades at the draft otherwise he does seem on course to ice pretty much the exact same roster as last season (MISTAKE!).
It'll be an interesting 23 days leading up to the draft.
