Default Is my router dying?

I am pretty sure I have this router: D-Link DIR-655 Xtreme Gigabit Wireless Router.

I have had it for about 4 years and I seem to be getting spottier reception and I sometimes have trouble detecting my NAS. How can I tell if a router is dying? I am seriously considering a Time Capsule to replace this for ease of use, particularly backups. Thoughts? Help? Thanks.

I have the same router and have had no end of grief with it the last little while. If you do a google search, you will find lots of forum threads discussing problems with this router. Try updating your firmware and see if that helps.

I think that's the one my team uses.. We've been having to do cold reboots on it about once a week.

I'd maybe suggest loading dd-wrt on it. I had a basically useless DIR-615 that finally became a useable router once I put that firmware on it.

Word to the wise though.. don't use chrome to try and install it. I had to resort to using my old windows laptop and IE to get the firmware to take. No idea why..

DLinks always die. Don't buy them. I've had many bad ones. Same with my friends and co-workers.

Well, surely they all can't be bad people?

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.
