That's where I'm at as well. I'm a 20-25 minute walk to Canterra Tower. That's if I cut through the neighborhood and pop out at Edmonton Trail and Memorial. That likely quailfies as crossing a highway to you. To avoid that, you can cross the pedestrian overpass at the Bridgeland/Memorial train station and walk along the river.
The crappiest part is the area around Langevin bridge because you're right by the Homeless Hilton. Sometimes you'll see a few people around, but there is always a cop sitting by the shelter when it's busy, and I've never gotten hassled. That said, I ride my bike and just take the path on the North side of the river instead and skip all that. Congrats on the place!

the scumbag factor has really lessened since the closing of the Cecil and Beerland and the actual patrolling of the area by Calgary Police. Used to be sketchy as hell.

I live in Bridgeland too, never found this to be much of an issue. Whenever I got approached, and I walked by the Drop In Centre and the Cecil everyday, it was usually for a smoke or a light. Most of these people can't be bothered as they have more important things on the brain. Not much of a "scumbag factor" as another, sentimental, poster mentioned.

They may need a good dose of patience because the day marks the beginning of a construction project on the major thoroughfare that threatens to snarl traffic for the next six months.
Late tonight, workers are scheduled to close one of three lanes heading north on the Deerfoot Trail bridge that runs over Ogden Road.
Two narrower lanes will remain with the speed limit cut to 50 km/h at that section. Work resurfacing the bridge decks begins the next morning, and the effort will shift to the Calf Robe bridge midsummer.
At a nearby truck stop Sunday, drivers were lamenting the traffic headaches to come.
“It’s going to be ugly,” said Mike Burgess, a truck driver for 20 years.

Hahaha 2 lanes and 50km/h, oh Deerfoot how bad are you going to get.
Currently I only have to get to Glenmore and usually take alternative routes other than Deerfoot in the morning. Unfortunately those alternative routes are now probably going to be jammed as well.
Sigh... I'm moving in a month and can bike to work from then on, I'll never have to touch Deerfoot in rush hour again... that can't come soon enough.

My commute from my apartment to my desk is 30 minutes (route 18) if Crowchild NB isn't messed up. It was one of my main rules in getting my apartment, direct bus or C-Train

Yeah, none too happy about that. There was usually only 1-2 people standing during rush hour, so I guess it doesn't fill their quota I'll have to walk another 1-2 blocks for the 112.

Now that I'm working at a different time I decided to time my commute this morning. 6 minutes from driveway at home to parking stall at work. I don't live particularly close to work either... by Lethbridge standards. Lethbridge does have its benefits!

I hear they delayed the Deerfoot Trail work due to the weather today - doesn't look like it'll be any better weather wise until late into the weekend perhaps.

The Deerfoot work started today, morning shows and radio were both saying it was pretty nasty - anybody experience it at ground level?

Yeah, the entire SE is a mess now because of that construction. I go from Cranston to Glenmore and it was a good 20 minutes extra. I seriously wonder if going all the way out to 84th and then to Glenmore would be faster.

I was forced to take Deerfoot every single day for 2 years.
That was all it took for me to move.

Barlow was at a virtual standstill. Someone called in to CBC and said Cranston -> 104 Ave took close to an hour.
The old Douglas Glen/Quarry Park/Riverbend shortcut is now far too well-known, but I still doggedly go that route every day since it seem every time I try alternatives it winds up taking longer. Perhaps if they got rid of that 4-way stop it might be better, but that'll likely piss off the locals something awful and might just move the problem elsewhere.
I can understand why people go insane sitting in traffic every day. I normally work close to my house in the SE so I skip all the Deerfoot agony, but I've been working at a different location for the past 6 months that takes me onto Glenmore and it's just getting silly now.

And this is why I take the bus from the deep south to downtown. I just sit back and relax and don't need to worry about traffic

I think the radio said it was cut down to 1 lane? I could be wrong though, I was flipping stations at the time.

I recently discovered that it's way quicker for me to take 14th St. downtown instead of Deerfoot or Centre St. It's a little more out of the way, but at least the traffic moves.

Which way are you coming from? I like Deerfoot --> 16th ave --> Edmonton Trail --> Downtown. Traffic moves just fine and you avoid the mess of cars trying to get into downtown on Memorial off Deerfoot. Plus, when it's dark outside the Langevin Bridge looks cool.

I come from Harvest Hills Blvd area. I have found taking Harvest Hills to Beddington to Berkshire Blvd to 14th is pretty painless.

I purposely left later at like 8:45... it was still backed up Northbound on Deerfoot to about Southland drive.
Apparently the 2 narrow lanes at Calf Robe are being made into one lane by ######ed drivers.
3 more weeks... 3 more weeks.
