Also, anyone who gets writing inked on their arm that's of a different language (i.e. Chinese) but doesn't actually speak that language is a 100% grade A twat.

Depends on where you go.. Better artist will cost more..

I have two 3/4 sleeves and they cost about 3 grand a piece... They are also very very well done.

The only tribal tattoos I've seen that look cool are on great big Moari dudes. Well, at least, I'm not gonna be the one to tell them any different.

Just because your tattoo has Chinese characters in it doesn't make you
spiritual. It's right above the crack of your ass. And it translates to "beef with
broccoli."
The last time you did anything spiritual, you were praying to God you
weren't pregnant. You're not spiritual. You're just high.

That's awesome.

I don't buy into the thought that a tattoo has to "mean something". If it's a piece of art you like, have at it.

I have zero btw, but I think whenever I do I am just gonna go full sleeve with it.

I have one on each shoulder. One is 12 years old, the other 10. Both mean as much to me now as they did when I got them.

If you want to get some done, go for it.

Got this on the long weekend. I'm doing the Ride to Conquer Cancer as is a buddy who is a tattoo artist. He is one of the captains of Team Tattooed Against Cancer and co-organized the big fundraiser they had last weekend where you could get a tattoo for a donation. I've thought about it for years but never really had any good ideas. The suggestions for the fundraiser were things like a word or a ribbon for cancer awareness. Personally, I wanted to emphasize the cycling more than cancer thing as cycling is a passion and I didn't want a 'ribbon' tattooo per se. I wanted to relate both themes with my tattoo so I designed an awareness ribbon made from bicycle chain links.

Came in handy when I crashed my bike about three weeks ago. Dislocated my elbow, but the road rash on my legs would have been way worse if I had hairy legs... (BTW, road rash is on the front side of my ankle and knee so you can't see it in the photo)

I love the bike chain ribbon tattoo. Way to put a unique spin on something I find to be getting as trendy and annoying as tribals and Chinese characters. I realize the ribbons have (supposedly) more meaning but so many people are getting them just to have them and put absolutely no part of themselves into it so its another cookie cutter tattoo.

This one is awesome!

So true. When I was living in Shanghai I spent quite a bit of time hanging out at the place where I got my tattoos done just because the people who run the place are my friends and we could hang out, have a few beers and play foosball there. I met so many very successful people while hanging out there. The majority of people who were getting really large tattoos (like full back pieces or full leg pieces etc.) were very successful professionally. In fact, I would say the majority of people who I met there getting tattoos were well educated and professional people. They just also happened to have a side of them that wasn't all starched collar and cufflinks.

I think it depends how much thought you put into them and what they mean to you. I have 4 personally and love them all. 3 have very important meaning to me, that remind me of how far I have come since my darker days... the other is an original abstract piece designed by one of my closest friends (and tattoo artist)

you are right, it depends on the artist and the amount of detail. I am currently 3/4 of the way through a half sleeve on my forearm and because of the amount of detail my artist has put in 35 hours on it so far, their standard shop rate is $150 an hour (that will definitely vary shop to shop), thank god the guy is a close friend
