Polansky lost 6-7, 6-1, 6-0
He's a strange one.. sometimes he plays really well, sometimes it looks like he couldn't even beat me!
Dancevic won! 6-2, 6-2! Onto round 2 where he faces Eduardo Schwank of Argentina (ranked 166)

So yes if Djokovic gets 1000 and Nadal fails to get to the semis (only getting 180 or less) then Novak is #1. Nadal not making the semis on clay is very unlikely though!
You could see a big flip at the French Open, Nadal has 2000 point to defend and Djokovic only 360. Can you imagine a scenario where Nadal beats Djokovic at the French Open final but Djokovic takes #1 away from him?
|
Ok, so if Novak wins the french open will that for sure give him the number one spot?

Even better. He just has to make the final and he's #1.

Alright, I was thinking more about this over lunch..So if it's a Djokovic Nadel final at the french open and Nadel wins Djokovic will still be ranked number one?..How does that work when Nadel has more points than he does.?

Girly explained it earlier in the thread and if you find that it will give you a better breakdown but basically it works out to your ranking points are in relation to what you did last year.Nadal got the full 2000 points last year so winning this year keeps his points for the French Open the same.
While Djokovic did not do as well last year so he gets to replace his (lets say 800 points I don't know what it is) with the higher points that he would get for getting to the final this year.
Not sure if that makes sense Girlysports can probably explain it better.

Moon nailed it perfectly. Yes even if Nadal beats Djokovic in the final, Djokovic will take #1 away from Nadal.
The rankings are a continous 52 week cycle. Someone beating someone else in one match will doesn't mean they get ranked higher.
Djokovic is only defending 360 points from his quarterfinal defeat last year.
So right now the rankings are:
#1 Nadal 12070
#2 Djokovic 11665
When the tournament starts, take the points from 2010 away and it's
#1 Djokovic 11655-360=11305
#2 Nadal 12070-2000=10070
If Nadal beats Djokovic in the final
#1 Djokovic 11655-360+1200=12505
#2 Nadal 12070-2000+2000=12070

Dubois wins 6-4, 7-6! She plays the 4th seeded player Nuria Llagostera Vives of Spain. Will be a tough one.
So three big matches tomorrow to get into the main draw. Dancevic, Wozniak and Dubois.

Pospisil going up the rankings playing in Asia! Winning a futures event and picking up 18 points (I think).

Jeebus...what's with Canadians needing a break having to go up against #1 seeds? Polansky in a Challenger last week, Frankie D. in a Challenger this week.

Yup draws have not been kind. But Frankie D can be anyone not in the top 50. He just needs to be more consistent!

As the French Open winds down... the ATP Calendar continues next week.
Next is the ATP 250 Gerry Weber Open in Halle,Germany on GRASS!
Milos sneaks in there as the 8th seed and got a pretty good draw for himself.
Would be shocked if he didn't make the QF and meet Youhzny.

On the women's side, Rebecca Marino will be a career-high 45th in the world and she's in Birmingham.
Here's the draw, she's in 13th seed. She gets a local wildcard early on Monday. Should be a breeze. She should get as far as facing Ivanovic in the round of 16.

Good news so far... Marino and Raonic both won their first round matches by identical scores 6-3, 6-1.
Also, both Federer and Youzhny withdrew from Halle... Raonic doesn't have to face a seed until the semifinals! Huge opportunity.
