Anyways I have about 100 hours worth of work done. Don't listen to anyone else. If you want one go for it. If you are unsure, wait and make sure it's something you want to have.

Shops now are not the same as they were 10 years ago. Most artists these days are amazing artists and a lot have an art school background.

If you walk into a shop and they have flash on the wall my suggestion would be to leave that shop. Find one that only does custom work, that usually is a sign of a better artist. If they are tracing a design off of flash, probably not so good.
$100? Wow, where did you get it done. I'm going to Remington Laser. I think $220 is their minimum charge. I had an appointment at Rethink Your Ink and their per-session charges were cheaper but the girl thought it would take 19 sessions so I walked.

I haven't gotten my tattoo yet as the artist I want to go to is in Montreal so I need the funds for the piece and the plane. But it will be worth it once I get it since its an idea I've had for about 10 years and this guy's work and cartooning is amazing.

So far my body art has been solely piercings.

I've got 2. I'm 43 and still love 'em. Although I haven't had them for long.

I'll pay you $200/month to get my name visibly tattooed on your face.

I don't have any regrets at all about my tattoos. They're not for other people; just for me. I couldn't care less if other people think they're cool or not and most people never see them unless they know me pretty well. Even those people don't always know what they mean to me.

Personally, I just view them as art on my body. Like having a painting you like that goes with you wherever you want over the rest of your life, so whether a person has tatts because they have some deep meaning or because they just think they look great both seem reasonable to me. I used to hang around a lot at the place where I got my tatts done in Shanghai and you really meet people from all different walks of life getting tatts for all different kinds of reasons.
I don't have any tattoos and I don't plan to ever get one. Some tattoos are really bad and some are pretty cool. Your answer is exactly how I see tattoos.

Like Papi said, make sure it means something to you and is not just something off the wall.

A few notes:

1.) If you get anything in a different language, make sure you have it dead on. Take it to a translator and then take it to another person. Avoid Chinese unless you are 100% certain.

2.) As a general rule, never get a tattoo that can be visible if you are wearing work attire.

3.) Design it, think about it, and walk away from it for a week or two. Do you still like it? Are you 100% sure? It is going to be there for awhile.

4.) Finally, Go to a GOOD artist. Don't cheap out on a tattoo. If a guy is charging 150-200 bucks an hour and is booked for 3 months there is probably a reason. Don't just go in to the guy who can get you in an hour and is probably sweeping the back the rest of the time.

That's the weirdest 1337 I've ever seen.

As for tattoo recommendations, I'd suggest going to Sam at Bushido. She does some amazing work. She did my friends sleeve and it did a phenomenal job. Plus she's really cool.

I want to tattoo my face to look like permanent cat make-up, with whiskers and a cute little nose.

I worked with a guy who used to work in the clubs, and he had tattoo's all over the place, on his face, on his neck. He eventually got fired, and now has been unemployed for probably close to a year. Maybe he's regretting the face/neck tattoo's now??

Seriously? If I were teaching a course called "How to spot a ######bag" lessons 1, 2, and 3 would be focused entirely on tribal tattoos and the barbed wire bicep tat, with an introduction to dudes who regularly use tanning beds.

Maybe tattoos work for some people. People that manage, serve, or bounce at bars, for example, should have at least one tattoo. Otherwise, I think they're ridiculous.
Do you know how many people have tattoos? CEO's, Billionaires, Scientists.... What you say is ######ed that servers and bouncers should have them. LOTS of individuals have them and their profession has nothing to do with tattoos... Its a personal choice. If you don't like them, thats fine. Many people do like them, and they are easy to cover up with a dress shirt.

My friend, a well respected tattoo artist only got his first tattoo on him self, on his leg. Otherwise if he is not wearing shorts, you would not know he had a single tattoo, and like I said this is a respected tattoo artist.

Oh and I will add. I am in the midst of completing a full sleeve. about 80% finished. 3 quotes, and a slightly Asian theme. As a traveler my tattoos grab attention, and always make for conversation. Everywhere I have ever gone, people always ask me about my tattoos, and how great they look. Funny thing is, I get little elderly ladies that walk up to me, grab my arm and tell me how beautiful my tattoos are. So funny, and happens every few weeks in public.

just out of curosity, how much does a full sleeve usually cost? I'd like to get one done sometime in the near future that goes around my only tattoo. I am guessing it depends on what I want and where I get it done right?

I have 7, I've been getting them since I was 18 (I'm 43), I've got a 3/4 sleeve coming up and a family crest after that.

My advice is simple. Be sure of what you want and go to a quality artist.

Those are tits. Your wife has them because she is a female, you have them because you are getting old and saggy.
