Unreal. I was just hoping the guy wouldn't be a bust after signing his new deal, but he has looked fantastic this season.

And his batting average is 0.090 higher than his career avg of .260
The guy is ridiculous. He's only 9 RBI back of 1st, and a little back in Avg. If he keeps this up, he might win the Triple Crown.

I don't think Bautista has much of a shot at the RBI title, as teams are generally pitching around him with runners on base. Patterson has never shown enough on base consistancy in his career, and Adam Lind looks like the only hitter who might half ways scare opposing pitchers from putting him on base.
Hopefully he'll get a bit more respect in MVP voting though should he continue his strong play. Without him Toronto would be 5-6 games under .500.

Hopefully that grand slam will open up the flood gates for Hill. I still see him being part of the core.

No homo?
I'm quite fond of his girlfriend myself.
My fantasy opponent who's kicking myself all over the field this week had Danks and Jaimie Garcia on his team. Thanks to them his team ERA for the week went from 2.56 to 4.34. I needed the help.

It has been nice to see Rivera start swinging the bat lately and Patterson has just seemed so ideally suited to batting in front of Bautista as a lefty who loves fastballs. I still don't like Rivera's effort level on the bases and in the field but I am coming around to him as DH once Lawrie arrives.
Oh and this is a few days ago but here's a basic summary of the super 2 thing for everyone who is wondering why Lawrie isn't here yet.

I think they call up Lawrie around the Baltimore series starting June 3rd which is when Lind is predicted to be back also unless Nix really starts hitting, looking good today though.

Would you trade Bautista for Halladay? Hypothetically speaking.

Halladay's value is more than Bautista's IMO simply because he's an ace with very very little injury risk. How many pitchers consistently put in 9 innings and come close to 20 wins year after year? Putting that many innings also saves the bullpen from coming in and that's huge as well (basically 20% less wear on the bullpen as a whole). All this said though, this team is still a few pieces away from being a WS contender and a pitcher like Halladay would be that final piece you add to put you over the top. IF this team was better, and IF this was the Halladay we had a couple years back with this years Bautista, I'd do it at the deadline. However, this isn't the year the Jays are going for it, and given Halladay's age, I wouldn't do it.

Looking forward to watching the Tribe the next couple of days vs the Jays. Hopefully they continue their strong play in this series and the rest of the season.

"I just told him to run the bases," Danks told reporters following the game. "He was out there acting like a f-----g clown. I told him to run the bases. He’s a good player. He’s had a great year and a half, no doubt, he’s been one of the best hitters in the league. He was out there acting like he’s Babe Ruth or something. That’s horses---t, I think."
"He isn’t that good to be acting like he needs to hit every ball out of the ballpark. That’s just the way I feel. I have pride. I really do. I’ve had a pretty crappy year to this point but I have pride still and I’m not going to let him sit out there and show me up like that. I just told him run the bases and quit acting like a clown."
So much trash talking from an 0-8 pitcher.

Taking after Bautistsa who seems to be widely regarded as a class guy - seems really strange. Obviously pure frustration.

Bautista thus far as a WAR of 4.9 (Wins above a replacement level player)
The next highest batter has a WAR of 3 (Howie Kendrick)
The highest pitcher is Halladay at 3.6
In terms of value, Bautista's WAR has provided about 22 million dollars in value. So if he didn't play another game this year, he'd still be a bargain by 7 million dollars.
The highest WAR in any single season of any player in MLB history was Babe Ruth who had a WAR of 15.4. Bautista is on pace to come extremely close to matching that.
For comparison, only 29 batters last year had a WAR over 4.9 (Bautista was 8th) and the highest was 8.7 (Josh Hamilton)
Bonds 73 HR season, he had a WAR of 12.9. Bautista is on pace to break that in September.

Don't really see what Bautista did wrong, seems like Danks was looking for something to gripe at.

Danks is a horrible pitcher right now and he was just looking for someone to blame because he was angry at how crappy he was pitching. The outburst after the game was totally out of line though. Plenty of time to cool down by then.
I think he was through 3.1 innings at that point and he's expecting guys to go easy on him or something? Or was Bautista not allowed to show frustration at his pop-up.... not sure, but either way he's in the wrong.

I find it curious the Escobar's UZR is so much lower than his historical norm. It looks like that is primarily due to the RngR - would this be due to that ankle injury he had earlier this year?

UZR (and almost all other advanced defensive metrics) is almost useless when looking at a 2 month period. Even on a year-to-year basis there's a lot of noise. I know for UZR in particular they say that you need to look at three years of data before things start to stabilize.
