Does it's have to be North Van?
If you're a young, single, student I can't see that being your best option. North Van is beautiful, but I don't think the lifestyle will offer you as much as locatons in Van would. And the commute from DT can't be bad.

With me not having a car it would probably be more convenient to be close to school but no, it doesnt have to necessarily be North Vancouver. If all goes as I hope and I end up working at EA I'll probably end up moving to Burnaby anyway. But chances are my social life will suffer for the year due to school so I wouldnt be able to take advantage of the downtown Vancouver lifestyle. I'll be 30 when I get there too and I've never been a hardcore partier so it's not like I'll miss having late night binges. lol

Let me know what you come up with. I am interested in heading there too very soon.
Heres a quick example of a 2BR.

30 is like 20 in Vancouver. North Van isn't a bad option, but IMO it's a bit quiet and boring for a single person.
Even if you're not a hardcore partier, Vancouver is tough city to meet people in and being in more social areas is beneficial. Just my 2 cents as someone who moved here from Calgary 4 years ago.
I don't do rental services, but if you'd like me to shoot over some real estate listings on any areas just to show you what types of buildings/condos various areas have; I'd be happy to do so. I find looking at what areas sell for gives you some idea of the quality/demographics of the neighborhoods, and then you can check rentals in the same areas if you like them.

Well, first of all if you don't mind sharing space with Leafs fans there seems to be a thriving ABC (Anything But Canucks) club here.
I've known two people who worked at EA. I've heard it's very high-reward, high-stress company, especially when there's a deadline to hit. Be prepared to cat-nap for two hours at a time on their extremely well-appointed leather couches when the push is on.
I can't comment on living in North Van, unfortunately. Best of luck in finding a suitable place.

Trust me, I'm expecting it to be a very stressful job. Next to being a hockey player it's been my dream job to work there as a texture artist since I was a kid so even if I do happen to get a chance to work there and don't like it I can atleast say I tried.

Protip: It's hard being in the belly of the beast, but Flames fans can blend in with the crowd if you just smile and nod when people talk about how they like the Canucks. Then, when they turn their back, hit them on the head with a lead pipe.
They never see it coming.

K, you're moving to North Van and to help you blend in, I suggest you begin calling it "2nd Narrows Bridge".
Otherwise the folk will know you're an outsider and start asking questions. They find out you're from Calgary and... well... this town loves it self a lynchin'.
The good news is most of the lynchin' folk are gangster-kids and have a hard time running, tend to trip over their baggy pants .

Also, make sure you don't call North Vancouver, Vancouver. People, like me on my high horse, will inform you that they are two different cities.
Just kidding. Not really.

No, he's serious. And right. Calling North Van "Vancouver" in North Van will also result in lynching. We hate Vancouver. HATE.
Also, if you end up in North Delta, hell any part of Delta, don't say you're in Surrey (even though you technically are). They murder on sight for that.

That is only one small reason for getting murdered in Surrey. There are many, many other reasons to be murdered there.

There really arn't any 'bad' parts of N Van, crime or violence wise, it is pretty much all bland upper middle class, the Lonsdale area is full of apartments which actually makes it one of the more reasonable areas to rent, and you won't save enough money in Burnaby to make it worth the hours of extra commute.
Check the college notice board and try and find somone to share with, cuts down on your costs no end particularly with internet connection being extra.

Not at all Universities, and at some Universities they are more expensive or not available if enrolled in certain programs.

Vancouver is booming for VFX work especially on the feature film side of things. We seem to hire 10 to 15 people a month and sit at around 150 seats with another 100 to come in the next year. I still have friends over at EA though I haven't talk to them in awhile. They are busy for sure.

They updated the list a few days ago and added another 15 or so schools, will have to dig it up but it was in the papers. Anyways, it is not hard to get your hands on one.
