Default Question about Expedia.ca

I could use some CP advise. I'm currently trying to book a flight to Accra, Ghana for the beginning of August till the end of September this year. I checked expedia on Wednesday and found round trip flight for just over $2000, I am looking now and it is $2900. (I'm flying out of Saskatoon)

Do I just have really bad timing, or do they do something stupid like up the prices for the weekend. Should I wait until Monday and try it then? Its not urgent that I book them, I just don't want the price to go up anymore than it already has.

Keep waiting. My experience with Expedia or Travelocity is that prices jump all over the place...

Don't use Expedia, go right to the airlines' websites. A good tool to find out what airlines to go to is http://matrix.itasoftware.com. Choose "see calendar of lowest fares".

I'm seeing $1795 on United Airlines.

After a very bad experience with Expedia (we booked for one day, and our confirmation was for another...it cost us over $300 to fix their error...) I only ever use them as a comparison point. I look up the information, then call the airline directly with it.

That's a good practice. It's not like it'll be any more expensive on the actual website of the airline, hotel, car rental, etc. The only time I'd book on Expedia is if it's a ridiculous package deal you can't get anywhere else such as last year's Vegas flight/hotel for $47.

Clear your cookies before you search again. Or use a different computer/browser. Lots of travel web sites boost the price once you've searched for something before.

Can you go through the states?
I still see flights for about $2200 - $2500.

I'm a travel agent agent though so I'm looking in my system and not expedia

Both your cheapest and fastest option, can't ask for more. Coming back on the 30th is the same price.

And yes, that's after tax.

I assume that it's using the ITA Software engine (by Google), but if you type "flights to Accra" in google search, it'll show all non-stop flights. If there aren't any, it'll show direct routes. I found it pretty handy when trying to sketch together a flight plan that includes Sorong, Indonesia, and might help in narrowing down some options that could be cheap. Edit: or also can be handy using the inverse: type in "flights from Calgary" and then you can see all direct routes out of YYC.

Google did indeed buy ITA Software recently for $700 million, but the travel route search results they're currently testing out at the moment are actually from somewhere else (a different company they also bought, a long time ago).

The real interesting thing that everyone is waiting for is what Google decides to do with the power of ITA (which was developed in Cambridge).

Just to note, for anyone using ITA and is wondering how to actually book the flights it displays, Kayak and Orbitz are both powered by ITA, so anything you can find on ITA will be bookable on either of those sites (99% of the time anyways).

Thats probably the best idea. I have never seen any special deals on these travel websites that couldn't be gottem directly from the airline or hotel.

Expedia is nice for providing a list of hotels and relative prices for a particular city. So, convenient in that sense.

One idea might be to fly or drive to the nearest US airport and fly to Ghana from there. We seem to get shafted in Canada for airfares sometimes.

Dion_Iggy_Kipper!!!

If you can get yourself to Minot, North Dakota there are flights to Accra and back for around $1061 roundtrip after tax on Delta.

http://www.kayak.com/flights/#MOT-ac...09-28-flexible

Not sure if that's worth the 7 hour drive each way to you, but it might be.
