Staying at the UBC
Hey! Another Vancouver thread!
Has anyone stayed at the UBC while traveling in Vancouver? There are a few different options, including the Pacific Spirit Hostel, and then some other apartment options. The price is certainly right, although I've never been a hostel type of guy. For cheap accommodations, do you recommend this place?

Being an oilers fan it will probably just suit you just fine!
Now that I have that out of the way, you can also check out some B&B's in that area, they can be good as well and closer to kits beach and 4th ave which is awesomely awesome.

Well I stayed at the Heritage house. Kind of awkward upper floor attic suites, but some very nice style just have to duck occasionally. Lofty in other areas (ie bedroom). Nice people there. Not sure if ~$150 is good for you high season but can't beat the location..

150 a night? Yeah that's a bit too much. I'm going to be there for up to a week, I don't really want to pay that much. Thanks for the suggestion though, I'll look into some B&Bs.

Sigh, I make a simple boner joke and it gets picked apart.
The hotel you listed on the UBC campus is ok but it's kind of a pain in the ass (IMO) to go back and forth downtown. I would personally pay a little more to be downtown but it depends on what you're looking to do.

I have to be at one place in New Westminster, apparently about 28k away from the UBC, but other than that, I just want to explore the city. I was told about the UBC accommodations and sort of liked the idea because it is cheap, and seemed reasonably decent.

Doesn't make much sense IMO. UBC is nice, but unless you're spending lots of time at UBC I don't see any reason to stay there.
Are you driving or using transit? UBC to New West isn't very convenient

I'll have my car, and I only have to be there for one day, so the commute isn't a big deal really. Like I said, the reason I chose that is I've heard the location is beautiful, and it's inexpensive compared to what I thought a hotel would cost me.

Triumf House is another option: $110 per night for a standard room, it's quite pretty, and it's next to the hockey rink where I often play. Plus, you can stay by yourself and not be bothered by other people. http://www.triumfhouse.ca/nontriumf-rates.htm
Gage apartments is also not bad, although it's an ugly building.
UBC is beautiful, but it will take a long time to drive to New Westminster. They may be close on the map, but traffic makes it a long commute.

Obviously having a car is better, but don't they still have the 98 or 99 (B-lines?) buses there? I didn't find transit that bad in Vancouver when I lived there all things considered. Especially in more of the core area you could do it fine without a car. I think anyway.
And it may have already been covered in here, but does UBC still have its cheap movie theatre?
