Default Being impregnated during a rape is just like getting a flat tire

After reading about the state of women's bodily rights in America being under attack from skepchick, I read this sad yet hilarious article on a Kansas state representative which defies logic.

Quote:
Rep. Pete DeGraaf, a Mulvane Republican who supports the bill, told her: "We do need to plan ahead, don't we, in life?"

Bollier asked him, "And so women need to plan ahead for issues that they have no control over with pregnancy?"

DeGraaf drew groans of protest from some House members when he responded, "I have a spare tire on my car."

"I also have life insurance," he added. "I have a lot of things that I plan ahead for."

I still can't wrap my head around the fact that there still is an abortion "debate" regarding its legality.

I get why people think it is morally "wrong", I think a large number of people fit into that camp, but I can't believe such a large contingent of "mainstream" people think it should be illegal. It's insanity.

You gotta understand that those who oppose abortion don't generally do so because it's gross or morally "wrong". They oppose it because they feel that a fetus is a fully developed person, therefore an abortion is actually murder. They view it as a crime, not a moral issue.

That's why this will NEVER go away. Before you can solve the abortion debate, you have to answer "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?"

The people of Kansas don't want to be forced by their insurance companies to pay for the killing of unborn children. That is more than reasonable. They are not preventing insurance carriers from offering coverage but, simply don't want it part of general coverage wherein they would be in part paying for it.

Rep Pete DeGraaf suggested that a sexually active women who would consider abortion as an option in the case of pregnancy should pay for it. If not at the time of the procedure than before as a rider on her health insurance coverage.

It is not outrageous to expect a driver to plan for the possiblity of a flat tire nor is it outrageous to expect a sexually active women from planning for a possible pregnancy. Imagine that: A women taking responsibility for her own body!

How come Liberals always demand rights which are no rights and then expect others to pay for them?

I'm not sure if this is the same vote:

The bill sponsor Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) faced serious backlash after he tried to narrow the definition surprise sex to “forcible surprise sex.” By narrowing the surprise sex and incest exception in the Hyde Amendment, Smith sought to prevent the following situations from consideration: Women who say no but do not physically fight off the perpetrator, women who are drugged or verbally threatened and raped, and minors impregnated by adults.

Smith promised to remove the language and while it is not technically in the bill, Mother Jones reports that House Republicans used “a sly legislative maneuver” to insert a “backdoor reintroduction” of redefinition language. Essentially, if the bill is challenged in court, judges will look at the congressional committee report to determine intent. The committee report for H.R. 3 says the bill will “not allow the Federal Government to subsidize abortions in cases of statutory surprise sex” — thus excluding statutory surprise sex-related abortions from Medicaid coverage.

Remember always keep your rape insurance handy in your vehicle in case of an emergency. Spare tire, blankets, water, some food, and rape insurance. You never know when you will need these things.

Better yet, the state should legislate that the abortion is shot in HD and the mothers be forced to watch and re-watch as their child is aborted and murdered.

That'll teach 'em. And the ones who happen to be rape victims getting abortions should have the rape videotaped so they can watch that too! You know to help them process the shame.

It's not rape insurance. You are twisting things. It is abortion insurance for women who are sexually active and would consider killing their unwanted baby if they became pregnant.

Considering the population state of the planet and how babies and children are often a drain on our social systems, I think abortions should be rewarded with tax breaks for people who do the socially responsible thing.

It seems as though the goal of Republicans is #### up as many people as possible, financially, psychologically, and legally. At this rate, there won't be a functional citizenry when they are done. It's disgusting and astoundingly stupid.
