If true this is a huge blow for the Taliban, beyond being the former head of the Taliban Government, he was considered to be touched by god himself by his former followers.
He had an interesting history as he was originally willing to turn Osama Bin Laden over to the states pre 9/11, but was seduced by Bin Laden with gifts and money.
He was also trapped by the guest laws of Islam as he felt it would be a sin to betray Bin Laden who was a guest in his country even though he was under tremendous pressure by both Saudi Arabia and America to turn Bin Laden over to them.
I would expect that Al Zawahari is running for his life right now as Pakistan doesn't seem to be too safe right now.
