The only thing worse than the insanity of Muslim extremism is the equally ######ed people who think it's hilarious to poke and prod with stuff like "Draw Mohammed Day".

Actually, I seriously disagree.
This year's event hasn't anywhere near the traction of the original, but it still serves an integral purpose.
Every day should be Draw Mohammed Day. Satirists throughout history are the staunchest advocates of freedom.
Islamists are the ones who need to chill out. Really.

No one should be killed because of a drawing or an opinion. But trying to incite and piss off an entire religion of people, just because you want to, is insensitive, offensive, and idiotic. Not every Muslim is a lunatic terrorist and this proposed activity would serve to offend all of them as well. They may not kill you but they probably wouldnt like it very much. Honestly, whats the freaking point. Anyone who engages in this intentional thumbing of their nose at other people just doesn't get it, and is contributing nothing to the process of getting different groups to understand eachother and find common ground.

No it is not. Killing someone over an opinion is the problem.

It is a problem. So is trying to prove some kind of point by intentionally offending "islamists" as you put it. But ok, keep pretending that this is all in the name of "freedom". Things like this only serve to undermine those who are doing the right thing and trying to bridge gaps between different cultures. This "day" is just an excuse for cowardly bigots to take their shots at a group of people different to them. If you're gonna spew hate towards a group of people, don't disguise it with the "this is for freedom of speech" BS. At least have the balls to own up to it.

It's not poking and prodding. And definitely not making fun. Well, not in it's biggest principle.
It's defending free speech and taking away power from organizations who threaten.
If they see their threats don't work, it ends the threat of violence.
It evens the playing field for all the other religions that are made fun of on TV and in culture.
It's showing those who place low value on life and liberty that those are more important in our society than anything else, including their religious rights (which are not being infringed by the way).
I think it's a great idea.

It doesn't say you have to make a joke or be insensitive. Nowhere it says that. You could just draw him. Heck it could be a beautiful painting.
Some people will, sure, and I guess you could make a good argument on wanting to be associated with that.
But it is more about free speech, defending values, and preventing further violence and threats than anything. It is at least for me.

Anonymity is actually a great starting point. It foments all great revolutions.
Funny that Reggie was the one who started this thread after throwing around the word bigot in the homosexuality thread. Now who's the bigot? As usual you come across as a hypocrite. Its not people drawing mohamed that pisses me off its bigots like you who think its cool to offend a billion people because its "freedom" its idiotic and stupid. I'm sure the people who like this thread would be fine with a "puckluck's first annual Hitler is awesome" thread? Freedom of speech no? But nope I'd never do that because I'm not a racist bigot.

I'll kill anyone who disagrees with freedom of speech!
No one is killing anyone here. Nor are they even threatening violence.
In fact, that's the exact point, using it as a tool to defend freedom of speech and DISSUADE future violence. Because violence is what those extremist groups threaten, and in cases, have doled out.

I haven't said I or anyone else is killing, as in currently in the act of. I said going to kill. And that's definitely threatening violence. But it won't happen if they just agree that freedom of speech is the best. Disagreeing isn't tolerated in a free world!

But its not just the extremist groups that your slapping in the face. Its the whole religion.
The reason why they don't believe in the whole drawing of Mohammed is because drawings of him goes against Mohammed's wish of not being the focus of worship.
Not to be a smart arse, but if your going to do something to make a point or to protest, I would think its important to understand why the other side finds it offensive.

And I can guarantee that nobody drawing Mohammed on this day is doing it for that purpose.

No one would be drawing Mohammed if Muslims just believed it was offensive to draw him and therefore didn't draw him themselves. It's because they want to impose that belief on the rest of us, which is an affront to both freedom of speech and freedom of belief.
