Looks like Playfair will coach in Abbotsford for another season.

Good move as far as I'm concerned.

Playfair's .555 record I suppose is okay for an AHL team, but not in the North division. It's too damn competitive.
I would have liked to see a new coach for this team, but I can live with it and support him regardless. When the Heat play well, they really play well. Now, whether that's a testament to him, the players, or both we'll probably never know.
Hopefully, the Heat can do what they did in their first season under Playfair again.

Looks like the article has been updated this morning. Sounds like Playfair is in Abbotsford unless he gets an NHL job.

If it's a team option, then he's contractually obligated I believe.

"It was agreed that we'd exercise the option on the contract and prepare accordingly," Playfair told The News on Tuesday. "I think there's always the potential for advancement – it's like players, always trying to move up. I have a window in my contract where if I'm pursued by another NHL team for another position, I can talk to them."

No, Playfair will be the coach in Abby this season. I doubt next season though.

Do you think Brent should have any input in the hire should Playfair go?
Reason I ask is that if the players on the Heat learn a system similar to the parent club, it might ease their transition into the bigs.

That's a great point.
It didn't work for Darryl and McGill or Darryl and Playfair in terms of bringing up younger impact guys.
Can't hurt with a new GM having control of things.

Looks like Playfair is leaving Abbottsford for a better pasture. Rumour has it is he will replace Ulf Samuelsson as an Assistant Coach of the Phoenix Coyotes next season. Ulf signed in to coach MoDo I believed from Swedish league. Good on Playfair!
