For a nobody she sure has excellent television infiltration.

Curious to know what you find smart, witty and well written. While it's no Seinfeld, I do think it was a lot smarter show than most people like yourself give it credit for.
Smart might be a stretch. It's better described as a guilty, mindless pleasure with politically incorrect toilet humour and an overdose of scantily clad women.

I can see why its been number one. It's entertainment.

Back when I had housemates and basic cable, we found ourselves watching it quite a bit (it's on like 8 times a day), so I've seen a fair bit of it.

Breaking Bad, The Wire, Deadwood, Sopranos, etc. As for current comedies, Curb Your Enthusiasm, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, South Park (although not recently). Thanks to Tyler Perry, Two and a Half men isn't the worst sitcom on television, but it's got to be pretty close.

So out of the hundreds of new and current shows since Two and a Half Men came on the air you can name a grand total of 2 that are better? SP doesn't count because it is animated.

Both of which are on cable which basically makes them exempt.

Name a single better network sitcom. Big Bang Theory? How I Met Your Mother? Yeah those are totally smart, well written shows, unlike THM.

I don't disagree with that assessment, but it takes intelligence to realize what an audience will react to, even if it seems stupidly obvious afterwards. In the same way that people scoff at a pop radio hit, it often takes a lot of talent and effort to pull it off just right....otherwise everyone would be doing it. THM is written by some smart people, and filled with some strong actors (well, minus the kid), even if the subject matter is more or less fluff.

Personally, I think it's smart because it's packaged as a safe comedy that's clearly meant only for adults, and one of the few network comedies that eschews the same old dumb-husband/smart-wife family dynamic. It was smart to veer into un-pc territory, especially for a network comedy, and yet still remain accessible to the general population....and Charlie Sheen, as crazy as he is, was the perfect guy to pull it off.

As I mentioned, it's not the best show on tv by far, but I find the dismissal of it by some a little short-sighted.

While I like a lot of these too, most of them are premium cable shows that cater to a different dynamic. A drama like the Wire and a network Sitcom is a totally different viewing experience.

Who said that? I just listed the shows that I watch. I wasn't giving a comprehensive list of shows that are better.

I'm not fans of those shows either. I'd call them marginally better though.

Community, Parks and Recreation, The Office, Mr. Sunshine, HIMYM, The Big Bang Theory are all a lot better than Two and a Half Men. I have only seen parts of Modern Family but people seem to like that so it may also be better as well.

Modern Family is heads and tails above THM.

Why do you guys care what other TV shows people like? Does it affect you?

Reminds me of arguing about which band/genre of music sucks.

Add Parks and Recreation to that list, easily one of the funniest shows on TV.

I find Parks and Rec to be a very poor man's Office that tries way too hard without ever achieving the same charm.....and apart from the dude with the mustache, find most of the characters annoying. But hey, we all have different tastes, so if you like it, go nuts.

I used to think the same thing, but like The Office, it took a couple seasons to really find itself. I gave it another chance this season.. and man, it's hilarious.

Yeah, I don't know how anyone could say that about Parks and Rec now. All the characters are so genuine and each one has such a distinct personality that you grow to love.

Parks and Rec has to be one of the best shows on TV. Some people just don't like or get the comedy. My dad doesn't like Modern Family but it seems like 99% of the other people on the planet do, yet he can't get enough of that horrible show with Will Shatner.

And yet I still want to punch Aziz Ansari every time he opens his mouth. I do like Ron Swanson though.

I agree the show has gotten better, but it's still just not for me. I'd rather watch old Office reruns.
