Default Tax Return

Hey CP Braintrust,

So I think my tax return may have been mailed to my old address and have been unable to contact the people that currently live there. Is there something I can do to get the cheque re-printed or what?

Thanks

Contact the CRA and try to find out where they mailed it.

You should sign up for direct deposit. Doesn't help you much for this missing cheque, but prevents it from happening again (not to mention you get the refund faster).

Just a question, how long ago did you file?

Since your asking, it has probably been over a month and mine usually take a couple weeks, but just curious.

But phone the CRA. One of the extensions was Tax Return, I just phoned them an hour ago.

And if you ever end up owing money, the CRA can auto withdrawal from your account at any time!

They can pretty much do that even if you don't have direct deposit.

As long as it has been more than 10 business days since the payment was mailed out (1-800-959-8281 to find out) they will send you a form to sign and send back to them. Once this is returned and the payment has been verified to not be cashed they will send you a new payment.

If you do sign up for direct deposit, make sure you give (or modify if applicable) your banking information before filing your return. I changed my bank accounts one year and they tried to deposit the refund to my old account, even though on my return I had given the new banking information. When I contacted them about it they said their computers don't pick up new addresses or new banking from UFile, Turbo Tax, etc. and these have to be called in first.

Current processing times are 4-6 weeks, but electronic filing (efile/netfile/telefile) should be done quicker.
