Lord of the Rings on Blu Ray - the proper extended edition this time

Release date of June 28th. Some places like amazon are taking pre-orders. Not bad for $76.15.http://www.amazon.ca/Lord-Rings-Pict...5214074&sr=8-1
This is the version of the movie that I've really been waiting for. Each film is split over 2 Blu ray discs, so I have to imagine that the quality will be jaw-dropping. Minimum amounts of compression ftw!

Aren't the original film releases long enough? 2 Blu-rays seems excessive.

It doesn't sound nearly as awesome when you put it that way.

Haha, how could you not fit any movie on the planet on a single Blu-Ray? Seems a little excessive.

They're releasing a new version of Lord of the Rings?
I guess that means it's officially spring?

Considering The Return of the King is over 4 hours long, no I don't think it's that excessive. It's a necessity to split it without compromising the quality.

If they do that, I'm guessing one disc is for the movie, and one disc for all the extras and bonus stuff? Because it would suck to switch a disc halfway through the movie (anyone remember double sided laser discs?)

^^^ The extended edition DVD's required you to switch discs. I think each movie had 3-4 discs in total. 1 & 2 were the film, and the other discs the bonus material.

switching the discs for the DVD version isn't too bad. It isn't like there are previews or startup screens or anything. I think you just pop in the second disc, press one button, and the movie is playing again.
Return of the King is over 4 hours long.

Yes, the extended edition DVDs have no previews or ads at the beginning of them. I watch mine at least twice a year.

The extended edition on Blu-Ray is pretty much the reason I bought a Blu-Ray player.

I already have the theatrical and really it is all I need. Unless the price goes down significantly I won't bother.
2 discs for one film? When I watch a movie I chill on the couch and don't move, I'll change a disc for a game (Mass Effect 2), but a movie which is 4 hours long? Come on, fit it on one disc.

Not to mention, a 4 hour movie is looooooooooooooooooooooong.

*I know people will flame me for thinking the extended's are better and theatrical's are terrible.

I wonder how much they're going to touch up the video quality on the first movie. The Fellowship is all over the place when it comes to picture quality. I grabbed the trilogy on Blu Ray for $20 a few months ago, but it'll neat to see how these get reviewed.

Not sure if having spectacular quality is that important for these movies anymore. The graphics are pretty mediocre by todays standards IMO and blue ray doesn't help that (I own the theatrical version blue rays).
