Glisten Dishwasher Cleaner - Where to buy?
Does anyone know of a retailer in Calgary that carries Glisten? I've searched Co-op, Superstore, Sobeys, and Walmart without success.
For years, I've been buying Glisten Dishwasher Cleaner at Safeway, but it appears they no longer sell it. They have replaced it with Affresh, which I tried. It is nowhere near as good as Glisten.
Glisten is an awesome product. After a use, the dishwasher is like brand new. In addition, Glisten is also great at removing water, food, and mineral stains from dishes, cutlery, and even white fabric.

ONce upon a time, I used tofix restaurant dishwashers. If i recall correctly, Lime-away is based on phosphoric acid so it's food-safe and nickel safe.
but you will need to confirm this for yourself ( I don't trust my memory - you shouldn't either)
(CLR seems to be stronger- but stronger is not necessariy better)

The Dishwasher soap industry has removed the phosphates from the dishwasher soap.
My wife called in a repair guy who told us he has had a lot of call from people complained that dishes are not coming out clean any more.
He sold us a box of a European dishwasher tabs with phosphates and the dishes are coming out clean once again.
I will find out what it is called. Trail appliances and Atlas carry this product, it is on the pricier side, but you will have clean dishes and a cleaner dish washer.

My dishwasher has a crazy amount of white scum buildup on the inside. It has now started to coat all of our clear dishes (glasses). This is really annoying. Do any of the products you guys have listed help with this kind of thing?

Glisten will leave the inside perfectly clean, if anyone can find a place that sells it.
I should note that Glisten isn't a dishwasher soap. It's a cleaner for the dishwasher itself. With my hard and mineral filled well water, one use per month was needed to keep the dishwasher tub brand new.

I've started putting a very small amount of Calgon into my dishwasher's wash cycle. I use the Electosol tabs and so just a small amount of Calgaon does the trick. Dishes come out cleaner; and the inside of the dishwasher looks as clean as it has ever been.
Only place I have found Calgon in Calgary is Superstore- bottom shelf of the laundry aisle.

Did you look in the personal care aisle?
I think Glisten is tooth paste.

I think I found some in Safeway (Dalhousie) like 3 months ago? Same aisle as all the other dishwasher detergents.

Glisten is a white powder cleaner, not a toothpaste. It is made mostly from Citric acids and other lemon extracts. It's phosphate free, environmentally friendly, and safe for septic systems.

Thanks! I will check out CT tonight or tomorrow. It was one place I was going to check out, but hadn't had the chance yet.

We tried everything to the point of almost a new dishwasher. Eventually we found something called Lemi Shine at Canadian Tire. 1 wash with this stuff cleaned everything. Now we add about 1/4 of that to 3/4 soap and everything is good.
http://www.lemishine.com/
Stuff is gold. One little container costs $4 and lasts us about a month.
Edit - guess we didn't try glisten.

Yes! My evil plan of raising your hopes only to dash them 20 minutes later worked perfectly.
I just double checked under my sink and it's actually lemi shine that I have as well. We used to buy glisten at CT but looks like last time I went to buy it they didn't carry it anymore. I can confirm that lemi shine does work just as well like Bend It said. I'll understand if you remove your thanks above.

Lemishine is basically the same stuff though, right? Citric acid and lemony deliciousness

Love the topic, so timely.
I accidentally put pasta pots in our new dishwasher, and now the tub is stained orange. I hear that citric cleaners can clean the plastic - any one had luck with lemi-shine / Glisten getting the plastics clean again?

We're getting a lot of calcium/soap build up on our dishes. I was thinking it was the lack of a water softener, but the problem has only started in the last couple of months. I hope one of these products will save me from handwashing everything with CLR.

Did you switch soaps around that time? I found the best detergent to use that didn't build up was Cascade.
Also, the hotter the water the better. You can try running the kitchen sink on hot to get it up to temp, so the dishwasher doesn't take a slug of cold water off the get-go.
I did that (combined with a rinse agent) in a condo without a water softener for years and never had an issue.
