One thing i've noticed is that Canadians believe they have ownership in the NHL.. guess what? 24 of 30 teams are AMERICAN and it's an AMERICAN business. Say hello to the GIANT TV deal..

Get it through your heads! I've been on both sides of this fence.. Canada, you are NOT the NHL.

The league's owners are pursuing this and wanting to close this deal for a reason.

Get over yourselves!

Do they care about Glendale? Probably not. But there are plenty of reasons for them to care about the issue.
The irony in his post is that he's acussing us of taking this all too personally, but the only reason he's posting in this thread is because he's taking everyone's comments in this thread personally.

It's like a no smoking sign on your cigerette break, or being a Mr. Playitsafe, who's afraid to fly, then packing your suitcase and kissing your kids goodbye for a flight that you waited your whole damn life to take, then thinking "Well isn't this nice", as your plane crashes down.

Kinda knew this was going to pass when it went to a vote. Why bother putting it to one, especially when you've come this far?

I wonder if this is part of the plan of getting Atlanta, who may be in even more trouble, to Winnipeg so both teams aren't in trouble.

Do these idiots think someone will push a plunger to blow up the arena when the Yotes leave? This year or next, this team isn't long for AZ.

Someone should show them how QC and Winnipeg did just fine without the NHL. All this fear mongering is shameful

While the deal is the largest they've ever gotten, it's hardly huge. And the revenues and viewership in Canada is comparable if not larger.

And I guess it's wrong for us to feel a little ownership in a league we give over half the players to, the championship trophy to, and probably half the revenues to?

Oh, and the game we invented?

Sorry, our opinions matter as much as yours. And it is a discussion board.

Those six Canadian teams are currently generating 1/3 of league wide revenue. No, Canada is not the NHL, but we're pretty darn important.

Your market is bleeding losses because it can't support a team. No one in your huge TV market watches the games. Your city/team has done nothing to contribute to the league and is in fact a massive drain.

Get over yourself.

Is that gate or total revs? IE television and merch?

Because I gotta believe the combined revenues from CBC, TSN, and Sportsnet are way higher than the US deals, even with this new deal. (Which a lot of people on both sides of the border have panned as too small for the next ten years given the new media and broadcasting wars.)

I've been trying to look up some numbers here, but haven't found much yet.

This hardly changes anything from a Canadian fan perspective.

Atlanta to Winnipeg, and in a couple years Phoenix to Quebec City.

All the 25 million dollar cheques in the world wont turn Phoenix into a hockey market... this is a slow bleeding of tax payers.

And the mayor saying this isn't a subsidy but a payment for managing the arena is.. ugh.

Honestly. It's like the mob is in charge.

edit: Mayor taking another shot at the Diamondbacks and the fact that the owners wife is a part of GWI. Honestly. What garbage.

Like I mentioned a page ago, pretty sure this goes through and Coyote players and fans get to go through this one more year.

In the Atlanta thread there is discussion that the possibility that Atlanta could still move to Winnipeg this summer, that in fact this delay could be part of the plan as Phoenix is in slightly less trouble than Atlanta (if you can believe it!)

Either way, Winnipeg gets their team this year or next. That's not what concerns me the most. It still concerns me that the league is willing to sacrifice league gate revenues (in a uncertain economic time) to try and hit a ball out of the park they've been swinging at for 40 years or so.

Just doesn't seem like good business. Kinda like politics it would seem like now would be a good time to solidify your base, AND THEN expand.

I want to see what Goldwater is going to do. Their representative at the meeting said this would be illegal under the Arizona constitution, did he not?

Your team survived to play for one more year. Maybe. Get over yourself. Congrats on keeping a team you (and 1000 other people) care about. Be gracious in victory.

You are single handedly making me not like the coyotes. Stop acting like a canucks fan.

I think he said the bond deal (and other deals discussed) was illegal. This isn't a deal, just payment for services for another year, while the NHL continues to own. This isn't illegal, just amazingly shortsighted.

EDIT: Clarified.
