OK, I'll bite. How will the NDP make a mess. They have really limited power at this point.

I think he was getting at making a mess of their own party and it's new reputation.

If so then I can see the point.

In all honesty though I think that once they're sitting and the government gets down to business we'll see almost none of them. They might not get re-elected, particularly the girl who hopes to visit her riding sometime soon, but that might be the most we hear.

If there is one thing the media does well, it is stirring the pot. Unless the party whip keeps these MPs in line, the press gallery is going to be making beelines at them to see if they can generate a story.

But also, I think there is a chance this could end up like a one-night stand where the voters wake up the next morning wondering just what in the hell they were thinking. The NDP has to keep their misfits in control AND they have to prove to the public that they deserve to be more than a protest vote. That is part of the "mess" to which I refer.

And if the NDP should fail to move towards the centre, I would argue that a revitalized Liberal party could take a good percentage of that vote right back in 2015 even if the NDP limits the controversy. That, however, would depend on the Liberals addressing their own problems.

I don't think that the NDP moves to the center (unless Layton leaves and they elect a new leader, then it's hard to say of course). I just think that the party will keep these MPs out of the spotlight and once there are legitimate issues to talk about this will be long forgotten.

As for the individual ridings it might be a different story. I don't know how many of these ridings they'll keep next time around and wouldn't even want to try to guess. The next election is still 4-5 years away! You also never know....these MPs could do just as well as some of the very experienced MPs do.

Yes that is what I meant.

Government wise, I doubt they'll do anything, but internally I think they'll have a huge problem.

when the NDP deputy leader flies off the handle with bin laden photo conspiracy comments, their party whip has no chance out there. It will be entertaining to watch them handle this responsibility.

I will be surprised if the media gives it half the attention it gives every Conservative gaff.

The NDP can't possibly move to center without alienating their key supporters in lower income and unions.

Well I met my first Harper fear monger on the weekend - it made for quite an entertaining discussion.

The secret and evil agenda has already been activated and we will be lucky to even recognize this country in four years.

The NDP will survive the inevitable gaffs and wtf moments their new members will create. I seem to remember the newly minted Reform party had more than a few new MPs who had just fallen off the turnip truck, and they did alright in the end (after shedding the worst bumpkins). I don't see their support staying at it's current level, but that has much more to do with policy and leadership (if Jack leaves or gets ground up by the Cons attack machinery) than it does with embarrassing newbies.

I can't remember any of the first wave of western Reformers that were as seemingly unprepared for life on the Hill as some of Layton's 'little dippers'. Sure there were a few wing-nuts but this barmaid has to take top spot. A candidate parachuted into a riding, unable to converse with 80% of her constituents, having never been to the area and with some questions (though spurious) regarding the validity of her candidacy? Nope, I can't remember anything like that, though I could be wrong. Some of the ones I recall had little to no political experience (not a prerequisite in Canada) and they may have had regular jobs; taxi driver, farmer, radio station manager, ex-police, but my recollection is that - to an individual - they lived and/or worked in the constituency they were to represent and didn't have the language problems this girl from Ottawa has.

Man this girl is getting killed in the press. Now it comes out that the NDP "accidentally" stated on her online bio that she has a college diploma...

The NDP's online biography of Ruth Ellen Brosseau, who won the Quebec riding of Berthier-Maskinongé without ever having set foot in it, says she "has a diploma in Advertising and Integrated Marketing Communications from St. Lawrence College in Kingston."

But the college says while she attended classes there, she didn't complete the course.

Poor girl. Let it die already.

I think the difference is that the Reformers were elected in ridings where they were at least expected to contend. I imagine some of the candidates in left-leaning eastern ridings were probably not overly qualified, but since they weren't elected no one ever heard about them. The NDP didn't expect to have a chance in these ridings, and so threw in whoever they could find as a token candidate.

Poor girl. Please. She's an MP now, which opens her up to this type of scrutiny.

It sounds to me, that Mulcair needs a demotion from the position of deputy leader. Even this woman would be an improvement.

Not to mention she's not poor now either, her MP's raise is quite a jump from the tips she was getting at the bar for sure.

Why should the media let it die? The NDP intentionally lied trying to get votes and now they should pay for it.

Totally. On the same line, all of the parties who intentionally lied have to pay for it....wait a sec....now I'm left running the country? Who saw that coming!?
