Oh wait, he doesn't have it.
I cringe when I think how this team will be financially managed given what's transpired so far. The NHL is peddling off the Coyotes franchise like a cheap hooker. This sale shouldn't be this complicated and extravagant.
THe NHL has such a hard-on for Phoenix it's almost embarassing.
|
If you want a BJ from a cheap hooker you'd better have the money up front, just try telling her you'll pay her off in instalments over the next ten years and see how far that gets you.

If I perceived something to have such a low value that I didn't even want to spend my own money on it, I probably wouldn't buy it in the first place.

Yeah cause that's what I meant. By your reasoning, if I was going to buy a car, first I would go to the City of Calgary and ask for 95% of the cost of the car to be covered by them, even though I have the liquid assets to purchase it out right, seems fair.

Oh sure, there are more "if's" even then that. Even if the GWI institute has a document that shows parking right belong to the city it only means that they belonged to the city on X date, it's entirely possible that there are subsequent documents that show reassignments of the rights back to the tenent at a later date. Of course then the onus is on the CoG to both provide those documents and demonstrate under what circumstances those rights transferred back (and that's another can of worms).
I'm curious about this rumored new bond offering (for 50M) if it is going to be backed in the same manner as the 116M bond proposal (with parking revenue) are they only going to be transferring over the rights to less then half the parking spots? If not does that not pretty blatently demonstrate that they were defacto (if or if not legally) trying to provide a subsidy? I very much doubt that somehow the parking spots lost 57% of their revenue producing value in such a short time.

So you don't have a mortgage, car loan etc.?
Hulsizer is getting a lot of subsidy here, but he's still commiting big dollars long term. He's willign to put in the amount of his money/credit that he values the team at, the rest of it is about paying off all the mess that has developed over the years.

The end of Coyotes saga could be near
Glendale may vote on NHL's offer Tuesday
http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/bre...121305474.html
Goldwater attorney Nick Dranias says he'd be surprised if a new deal will be viewed as legal by his group.
"Well, the bottom line for us is that the money flowing from the city cannot be grossly disproportionate to the money flowing back. If the NHL provides seller financing by cutting its price substantially and/or spreading purchase payments over the term of the lease, if the city cuts its contribution substantially, if the management fee is reduced to cover primarily operating expenses that would otherwise be born by the city, and if Hulsizer guarantees revenue flows to the city backed by something more than a promise from a shell entity, then it is conceivable the deal could pass constitutional muster," Dranias told the Free Press in an email. "I'm not holding my breath because if they had a deal that was constitutional, I think they would have shared it with us already."

Why don't we just be grown ups about this and learn to compromise. Put the team exactly half way between glendale and winnipeg in Cheyenne/Laramie, Wyoming. They will have a great rivaly with Colorado and fans from both cities can meet and cheer for one respectable team! If Quebec fans travel to Atlanta I would assume Winnipeg and Pheonix fans would travel to Cheyenne

Random, kinda, sorta, not really related question... who own the trademark to the Winnipeg Jets "Brand"... meaning primarily the logo, name and associated images?

Even better as they have a population and an arena. Little longer of a drive but probably worth it. Still much closer then Quebec - Atlanta

The other problem with the parking ownership issue is even if you can show that the city has transferred parking rights back to the tenant, it was obviously for no cost, as no one has any money down there, so you are argueing that something that was being passed around for free is now worth 100 million.

Yes, that would be the "another can of worms". But that's all just hypothetical at the moment.

The NHL does. They hold the trademarks on all defunct teams.

I think one very, very important factor is location. Just look at the map:
I can't imagine that trafic in CGY is anything like it is in PHO. I have a good friend in Tempe that is/was a huge PHO fan. He's also weathy and has done more than most could imagine to help the franchise. WIOld buy 100s of 50/50s. Bought a whole row of nose bleed season tix and gave away to local youth hocky organizations. Had four season tix for himself and would often give away the ones that he didn't use. He'd bid on every charity auction etc...
BUT a couple of years of fighting PHO traffic to get to glendale has completely soured him on going to games. Used to be an easy 20 min drive to CENTRALLY LOCATED America West Arena. It's now 20 miles further - perhaps an extra hour - perhaps more to get to an arena at the edge of the metropolis.
The move to glendale was a very bad idea. People east of Phoenix now have to travel through Phoenix during rush hour traffic to get to a game. That aint fun.
Compare to SJ's Shark Tank:
I submit to you all that location is the single greatest barrier to NHLs success in the south.
Here's Bridgestone Arena:
of course, central location does not equal a success (see Philips Arena in ATL), but it will certainly give an organization a fighting chance.

Going to AWA or US Airways, finding parking in that zoo of downtown around the arena can no way be more convenient then just rolling down the freeway an additional 10 minutes.
It's all relative.. now coming from Tempe would really suck.. the I-10 is awful

...and this is one of those guys that pounds his fists on the steering wheel when stopped on freeways. We'd park pretty far away and walk - deciding on where to eat on the way - I don't remember parking as a problem, but I was never doing the driving.

My in laws have a place in Chandler (far SE corner of the greater Phoenix area) and it took us under an hour in rush hour traffic...and we've done that drive about half a dozen times between Cardinal games and Coyote games. Its not ideal, but I had no issue with it at all.
