Please tell me you're intentionally being thick and don't need me to explain to you why that's an awful explanation for the Coyotes' woes.

Agreed. If people actually cared, the threat of the team leaving would increase support if anything.

I guess people didn't care about the Jets in Winnipeg then since their attendance dropped by almost 2000 their final season.

Yup. Hartford, Quebec and Minnesota all had small spikes in attendance when their teams were threatened with a move.
Phoenix and Winnipeg didn't. Both are terrible markets.

On the Coyotes front, NHL honcho Bill Daly declined to say if Glendale coughed up its $25-million but did say there's nothing new to report.

Winnipeg's ready to play, decision's been made
http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/opi...121142339.html
The Conference Board of Canada is readying a Wednesday release titled Playing in the Big Leagues; Briefing 3, The Case of the Quebec Nordiques and Winnipeg Jets.
With great respect for the esteemed economists and deep thinkers at the Conference Board of Canada, here's a first impression one day early that isn't going to change.
In Winnipeg, the decision's already been made.
TNSE's principals have not gone down this road on a whim. They're not taking a flyer. They have a pretty strong opinion that their money-making arena, the MTS Centre, their strong ownership and partnership, and market conditions vastly improved since 1996's departure of the Winnipeg Jets to Phoenix put them in a position to be proactive.

There'll be free pizza if NHL returns
http://www.winnipegsun.com/2011/05/0...if-nhl-returns
This just in from Andrew Shefchyk, Boston Pizza: “We are getting ready for the official announcement that the NHL has returned to Winnipeg,” says Andrew.
“When that happens, we want every guest at our locations in Winnipeg, Selkirk and Portage la Prairie to remember exactly where they were when the announcement was made. To that end, every guest in attendance at one of the 11 Boston Pizza Sports Lounges throughout those locations (when the announcement is made), will receive a free individual gourmet pizza to celebrate!”
I think Dominoes ran a full page add in the WFP a week or two ago, welcoming back the Jets.

Winnipeg's attendance dropped in their final season then went right back to capacity for the playoffs.
It was already determined during the 1994-1995 season that the Jets would be leaving after the 1995-1996 season. No such thing has been determined where the Coyotes are concerned, and a show of dedication from the fans this season would have gone a long way to showing a new owner that "Yes, this team can be viable, now pay for it with your own money".
Winnipeg's fate was sealed before the final season started, and that alone makes the situation far different than that of the Whalers, Nordiques, North Stars and indeed the Coyotes.

That the team will not move.. Glendale won't give up their anchor tenant. Period. Whether anyone believe that Phoenix is a good/bad market or if Winnipeg is a good/bad market is irrelevant. Glendale won't give in at this point.

Unless Glendale is going to buy the team or Hulz is going to use his money to buy the club the team is going to move.

It means that Bettman won't have to hire some Italians to go visit the Mayor of Glendale to get his money from last season. Foget about it.

Thanks PegCity for the non-opinionated reply. My guess is that this payment has no effect either way on any proposed shady refinancing (lipstick on the gift-clause pig) deal?

LOL. Wow.
Other similar conclusions:
2 + 2 = 17
Iraq = Iran with the last letter changed, therefore WMDs.
How was the Universe created? Don't know, therefore God.
Lots of people + Desert Climate - familiarity with winter sports = Prime hockey market

Nope, just paying for the deal that kept the team there last season. Tonight's COG meeting will hopefully shed some light on what is going on and hopefully resolve it one way or another.
