But the news reported way earlier than that during Prime Time shows (The Apprentice, etc) that he would be speaking later. I am in Central Time Zone and I stayed up until after 11 my time to watch his speech, because of the 'Obama will make a speech in a few minutes' story on every news station. Had I not been forewarned, I'd have been asleep by 10.

Come on.. missed out on his audience?? I haven't talked to one person today who didn't sit with anticipation to hear that speech.

Except the 100's of thousands on the East coast that were already in bed?
Sunday night after 11:30 is hardly a prime spot to announce something so major...and yes it most certainly was a hastily called address....hell they had to call all the media from their homes to get to the WH to be able to deliver the news.
But again...I will ask, where is the gain by waiting a week? Who benefitted?

Well Obama is expanding wars into Pakistan and Africa now, the economy is still sinking like the Titanic, they killed a bunch of children trying to get Qhaddafi......maybe it was a good time to up morale again in the war on terror.....to remind Americans why they are fighting. Obama is unpopular, and this boosts his image no doubt.
Obama will use this on the campaign trail......

The vast majority of my office, New Yorkers who have a heavily vested interest in this, wasn't awake for the announcement. If this is all some big conspiracy you don't make the announcement when half the country is in bed.
Quite frankly, the questioning here is downright pathetic.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised it turned political so quickly.
I figured we'd at least get a day of unification, like after the 9/11 attacks.
It's just too polarized right now I suppose.

Well I am no campaign manager and neither are you but I believe we could both come up with a dozen better times to announce this if they were looking for an "opportune time".

There's there's the countless numbers of people who didn't have thier TV's on that night. I caught the news conference quite by accident as I originaly turned my TV on to watch the national news.

I cannot come up with a facepalm big enough for this.
Will he get a boost out of this now? Of course he will and rightfully so....but tell me how it helps him 19 months from now. If they were sitting on this or whatever, they would of waited until about October 30th of 2012.
Also why would they wait a week? Did he not need this boost back then? Was he not unpopular 7 days ago? Was the economy any better then?
And what 'wars" are they fighting in Pakistan?
Conspiracy theorists are funny.

Actually, if you believe in one, its highly probably you believe in several others, generally for the reasons cited in the article. "All" is your word, not mine, and is an absolute that doesn't apply.
One-third to 40% of the population will likely believe in one or more conspiracy elemented theories.
The further evidence might be that on this board, its the "usual suspects" who seem to keep coming back on multiple fronts, including this new one.
Fortunately, the majority of the population probably doesn't fit that description.

Does it matter when the announcement took place though?
It will be repeated thousands of times through this week, and used on the campaign trail in the months ahead to justify further military action/spending.

If Bin Laden was not really dead, Al Qaeda would not hesitate to release a video of him speaking today.

Obama PC to start within a few minures...will be taking questions from the "corporate controlled" media, so I doubt anything said will stick for the tinfoil hat brigade.

It's totally pathetic and it always comes from right-leaning people. If he turns out not to be dead, or if the facts surrounding his death are not as they've been presented so far let's deal with that as it comes up. It's okay to be skeptical, but weaving conspiracy theories already is so dumb and annoying.
