First, you suck for not warning that that was a Dowbiggin article.

Beyond just that, their time zone stinks. They just won't start games at 8:30 or 9:00 CT to be the back end of a double header, and it is unlikely that CBC will bump the Leafs or Habs for them to be the early game on HNIC. This means that Winnipeg would only ever be the afternoon game when CBC shows three, or the visiting team whenever CBC or TSN do doubleheaders.

I imagine they would try and book all Leaf/Hab/Senator visits for the early Saturday slot.

I am sure CBC will find a way. The Jets used to exist, so it was done before.

There's a good chance you're "moving eyeballs" but there's just as good a chance you'll be adding more "eyeballs" to the broadcasts.

please god let this be the last week for this nonsense. atlanta, phoenix, who cares. move a team back to canada and get this over with. frankly i think it makes a lot of sense for atlanta to go... help the wings out, re align things a little better, and maybe phoenix will get its act together. i know between between atlanta and phoenix which city is more likely to be a decent NHL market.

Maybe they were pulled from the market because Bouw purchased them..?

When the Jets existed, CBC did one game a week that started at 6MT, 7CT. When they were on CBC - and it wasn't all that often - they just split the country, so only Manitoba/the Prairies saw the game.

Bonds being taken off the market is because they've been working on alternate financing.. financing i'm sure we'll hear about tomorrow.

How?

Canadians no matter where they live and if they have a team or not, already watch hockey.

That's a pretty confident statement to make about the entire population.

Fact is that some people just can't get emotionally vested in a sport/team if they don't really think it's "theirs". I could see more people in Winnipeg choosing to watch hockey over something else if they were watching their own team.

Funny that you say this, because I'd argue that's an equally plausible explanation for the recent attendance struggles in Phoenix. Despite having a solid team people are simply unwilling to become invested when they're constantly being told the team will be leaving. I don't think attendance will go up 4,000 a game if there's more certainty next season, but it's pretty hard to cultivate a base in a newer market when there's no certainty.

If I recall, Phoenix has had a team for over 10 years..... That is hardly a new Market.

And, as I have pointed out to Bou before, it is the lousy attendance that has caused the uncertainty, not the other way round.

Yeah, it was real rare to see a Winnipeg game on HNIC. Part of it was the wacky central time, and I thought also restricting them was that they were sponsored by Labatt, thus not the production facilities/agreements like Molson/Molstar teams had withe every other Canadian team had at the time.

There were plenty of issues surrounding that team initially, they were garbage and played in a rink with restricted views. There was a period where things should have gotten better prior to this mess and didn't, I'll give you that. Simply pointing out that the same argument can be applied to Phoenix as well as Winnipeg.

Maybe. The Nordiques definitely had that problem - and were never on HNIC as a result. Don't remember if Winnipeg was similar.

Latest From Arizona: The city of Glendale is expected to present some form of update on the Coyotes situation during a scheduled city council meeting on Tuesday. League sources don't believe the council discussion will provide anything enlightening, although there remains a sense of hope from those involved, this week could provide a much anticipated resolution.

Jets I am pretty confident were under Molson, they had a number of games on HNIC, and were also on local hockey game telecasts that were sponsored by Molson. You're right its the Nords that barely got games on CBC, and yes it was because of the beer wars. No home games were televised on HNIC, and some home games were blackout during the playoffs cause of this issue.

it would be interesting to know if the current tv deals the NHL has with TSN/SNet/CBC contemplate another team in Canada

Also 7 teams in Canada would disrupt hockey day in canada a bit..........

The TV landscape has changed significantly since the NHL left Winnipeg - back in the day wether or not the game was on TV would affect the ticket buying decision of my friends and i; however, now i just assume that the game is on tv
