2011 Federal election polls, demographics, predictions

Today is election day.

Those of you working today, do not forget you have the legal right to vote, even on company time. Canadian law demands that if you cannot make it to your polling station due to the hours you work, your employer must grant you three (3) hours paid time off to go and vote without consequence or reprimand.

SO democraticspace did do a final projection this morning...and they put the CPC into majority territory.

Fair enough. If there was a recent example of a floor crossing to the Liberals I would be against that as well though. The only one federally I can think of is Stronach, which was not ethical to me either.

Dave Taylor (provincially) should've had to run again as well.

The only option I think is fair is if they can't support the party that helped get them elected is to sit as an independent IMO.

I would tend to agree on that point. Floor crossing is a long held Parliamentary tradition that stinks. But most especially when a person crosses because they were bribed with power positions in their new party. If they cross, but sit as back benchers for a time, that would be slightly more tolerable.

That's interesting. That would mean the Liberals would have to lose 10+ seats where they are polling at least 10%+ lead.

From the 20 seats I listed on the previous page, the Conservatives have to win 16/20 to have a majority or pick up seats where they are trailing more than 10%.

They are pretty obviously anticipating a large amount of vote splitting in Ontario to come to that result.

If the public is so upset about minority governments and the frequent federal elections, why not just vote for the PC party and give them a majority ?

I would suggest to flat out avoid anything to do with results until all polls are closed...Darcy and crew dont need the headache of it all...right or wrong, legal or illegal.

I think the more noble thing to do is sit as an independant. This gives the MP the option of still representing those who voted for him.

It's interesting that the majority word keeps coming back. The EKOS poll plus the latest Nanos would indicate that it would be pretty out of reach. This 'ground game' arguement just doesn't sit well with me. I think what held people back from voting NDP in the past was that they didn't have a realistic chance to form government or enact change so people switched back to the Liberals in the final 24 hours or didn't vote, but now the roles have reversed.

The only reason I can see a pull back from NDP vote, is that they are much less refined policywise and candidatewise. It's easy to point at the Liberal platform and see where there is overlap, but when you look at the NDP candidates and what they have said in the past it's hard to imagine that they will get things right policywise. Example: As someone who works in Oil and Gas, how would you believe that the NDP would set up a cap and trade system that wasn't extremly biased against the industry? Their leader is on record chiding us as price gougers, while at the same time campaigns as the friend of the blue collar factory worker, whose plants belch CO2 just the same and also require cheap energy as a means of production. I just have a hard time believing that the policy end of their platform will be executed in a fair manner.
