The Muslim Brotherhood says

"With Bin Laden's death, one of the reasons for which violence has been practised in the world has been removed," Essam al-Erian, a member of the Muslim Brotherhood's governing body, told Reuters.

He also says

"It is time for Obama to pull out of Afghanistan and Iraq and end the occupation of U.S. and Western forces around the world that have for so long harmed Muslim countries," he said.

This doesn't sound like the Muslim world is too upset over this assassination and to me this is great news. Although it's good this man is gone, I'm a great believer in changing peoples hearts where possible instead of reaching for a gun.

Forgive my skepticism, but I'll believe it when I see actual photographic or video proof. Sorry, but grainy video of a building on fire won't sell me.

My guess is that the only proof we'll get will be if there won't be a tape with Osama holding a copy of USA Today with the "Bin Ladin is dead" headline.

[Updated, 7:30 a.m. ET] A U.S. government official tells CNN that DNA matching is underway on the samples from the body of Osama bin Laden. The matching has not beencompleted, but there are photographs of the body with a gunshot wound to the side of the head that shows an individual that is not unrecognizable as bin Laden.
No decision has yet been made on whether to release the photographs and if so, when and how.

Kind of curious... given the high value of the targets on the complex, anyone else think the SEALs were given the green light to consider hostages as acceptable casualties?

The CNN report I just read said that a female was used as a "Shield" by one of the male combatants. She died.

My guess is that EVERYONE was considered fair game.

if they were in the compound, then they had to know Bin Laden was there and thus had to have some sort of trust with his inner circle. so i'm not really feeling any sympathy for any "bystanders" that were taken out

If you were in that compound, you weren't an innocent person. Everyone within range would have been someone trusted with the knowledge of the primary occupant.

I wake up and hear the compound was built specifically to house Bin Laden. Wow. You suck Pakistan!!
