He got the collectors edition and opened it up in his hotel room. I'm guessing that in a rush to check out he left the instruction manual, with the activation key printed on the cover, behind when he left. He's absent minded and it doesn't suprise me one bit that this happened, but it has happened none the less and he's sitting at home with the rest of the PS3 collectors edition and no activation key.

Well, I caved and bought this, even after my dislike of the beta.

It's really fun so far. Got to level six in about 2 hours, and I've been having a blast so far. It's very casual friendly so I'm glad that I'll be able to kill some time with this.

game spy editors first impressions of the game:

They are none too kind to the game.

Reading that it sounds more like they went in with a chip on their shoulder and just ripped on it because someone at DC slept with their girlfriend.

i was thinking about getting this for the PC until i read this part

Another big problem is that DCUO is obviously designed for the PS3 first, with PC controls and UI functionality shoehorned in at the last minute. Why do I have to press Ctrl to loot nearby items? Why do I have to press Shift to break crowd-control effects? Why don't these things just happen naturally? Why do I have to hold the E button (as opposed to simply pressing it) to talk with characters or interact with objects? And why are all the social interfaces so broken? The game doesn't give you an option to turn off the stupid profanity filter, it doesn't give you a quick-reply function in chat, and the guild interface is about as basic and bland as I've ever seen in an MMO. What, was this game designed in 2002?
i refuse to support lazy game developers who half-ass the PC version of their game, when it is the more powerful platform

I actually had a friend tell me that the game was un playable for him on PC till he was able to hook up a console controller. That is sad.

Its better with a controller thats forsure. By default your main attacks are mouse buttons 1 and 2 which you will be hitting constantly, the sound of mouse clicking is driving me crazy. Chat sucks in this game if you wanna type something to your League (guild) you have to type /league everytime!!

Targeting is horrible in this game also, so many objects that half the time it auto targets a drum on the ground as i'm getting pounded.

Its fun to play but just not the game it should be.

It's early days for an MMO though - I'm sure stuff like that will be hotfixed fairly quickly.

It was designed this way, been like this since early beta. Like mentioend above this is a bad port to PC, it was made as a PS3 game.

A New MMO that is not WoW to be destroyed and laid to waste by WoW.

Nothing will challenge WoW until the Warhammer 40k MMO. And even that will only win out because nerds like me want to play it in character and run around yelling "KILL THE HERETIC! FOR THE EMPEROR!"

a lot of traditional MMO players will look down on DCU O and SW TOR (given what I've heard from the beta), but the reality is - those traditional MMO players are not the only customers these companies are after. You can't beat WoW at being WoW, so you need to do different things.

SW ToR sounds an awful lot like KOTOR w/persistent online where your party is human controlled vs. cpu controlled.

DCU O is structured more like a dungeon crawler w/persistent online ala Phantasy Star Online - except with much better combat.

You'll see an awful lot of traditional MMO players frown upon these games - and that's just because what it boils down to is they want traditional MMO experience that is better than WoW, and you just won't get that on the same scale.

I'm loving DCU O, but I don't compare it to WoW or Aion. I look at it more as a Champions of Norrath/Dark Alliance with a persistent online world. Whether or not that world is maintained and refreshed with new content is what will justify (or not) the monthly subscription structure they currently have in place.

Is there "gear" in this game? Like when you crawl through dungeons can you get new weapons or how does it work (since your weapon is your super power)?

Shamus Young (a gameblogger who's opinion I happen to value) commented on this, here:
http://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/?p=10396

and listed some more or less annoying stuff here:
http://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/?p=10387

and actually, for Escapist too, here:
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/arti...niverse-Online

The details are in the text, but here's the general idea:
Quote:
I predict this game will burn out quickly. Some of the problems I've mentioned - like the XP rewards and costume unlocks - are fixable. Others - like the need for more options - are expensive and time-consuming to address. I'm not predicting doom for DC Universe, but I am saying this game isn't about shake the world of online gaming. City of Heroes and Champions Online don't have anything to worry about. Which is a shame. Sony Online Entertainment made a fine product, but they cut corners in the wrong part of the game.

Sorry for bumping an old thread.

I don't remember seeing this anywhere.

I lack the time and patience for MMO's but this trailer might convert me due to its awesomeness.

I really wanted to try this game, until I find out I actually don't get to play as Superman, Batman, Joker, etc.

I like having a customizable character, but still...

I might buy it when they release another expansion pack (free).
