Pretty good game for Mr. Howse in Spokane tonight. He scored the first goal for Chilliwack as they came back from being down 3-0 to win 4-3 in OT. However, he took an awkward check in front of the bench and looked like he might have hurt his shoulder just before the OT winner. He stayed on the bench, but wasn't looking so good. Didn't get to see if he was going to take another shift or not.
BTW, Spokane is a great place to watch a game. Nice new building, polite & knowledge hometown fans, no Canuck or 'Rider gear being worn by anyone, and they were even nice enough to (mistakely) report that the Flames were up 3-2 at one time tonight!

I spoke with Chilliwack Bruins head coach Marc Habscheid today and for what it's worth he doesn't sound like a big Ryan Howse fan. He sounded very frustrated with him and doesn't think he'll make the NHL. He commented on how he's 19 and hasn't even bothered to get his license. He says Ryan doesn't think he has to work for anything. Sour grapes, or maybe we got another Alexandre Daigle on our hands (Not talent, but attitutde)?

Meh, when it comes down to it Howse will be the one who decides how hard he will work and how far he wants to go..not Habscheid.

While I wholeheartedly agree with you, it's concerning to me when a kids head coach doesn't really think the kid has what it takes. Especially when he's seen what it takes in a way more intimate level than most
Sidenote, talking with Greg Drinnan (local WHL scribe who's been around the block a tonne and is highly regarded by guys like Bob Mckenzie, etc), he says watching Ryan is like watching a lot of other talented guys who disappear for long stretches. He doesn't think Ryan will make it either

I really want this kid to do well, not only because he's a Flames prospect but because of things like this. I think people should be telling him (if they aren't already) that some "respected names" don't think he'll make it. He's got the talent but maybe he just needs a fire lit under his butt.... I'd love for him to make it just to prove that he's got the determination to do it

I believe in the Jays.

I don't know anything about his work ethic but I have some doubts about Howse as well. He has a great shot but when he's not using it I find him wholly unremarkable. That's not to say "bad" but if the other aspects of his game don't seem all that much better then average youth league WHL level then I'm not sure how it will fair against adult competition let alone elite adult competition. But he's young, still has some time, the AHL is still a developmental league so we'll see if he can rise up to the expectations of an NHL player.

What the heck is his head coach doing blasting one of his players like that to someone. Seems like poor form.

Getzlaf WAS bored his last year here. Theres absolutely no reason that team shouldn't have won the memorial cup, or at least challenged the London Knights. Getz, Ladd, Pogge, Alzner, Kohn, White, Carson... If Getzlaf had been remotely interested, we'd have an extra banner or two in the Dome.

I'm glad to hear Howse is so environmentally friendly. Its not often you hear of a kid sacrificing the freedom being able to drive in order to save the environment.
When he gets to the NHL I wonder what other lengths he will go to in order to reduce his carbon footprint.

Maybe it is the Edmonton Oiler in him coming out.
Or maybe he sees a kid who has similar numbers to him when he played junior, that isn't doing enough to make it.
