Body fat %: 28.5 down from 39.6
I knew I wasn't losing much weight in the past couple of weeks. I had a feeling I was building muscle due to increased workouts while training for my first 5k on May 15. I've also been increasing my weight training, so that helps.
Gotta say I'm happy overall, just have to keep on truckin'!

Awesome job!

Good work. A 24 pound drop since February is very impressive.
It's been my own anecdotal observation that taking that first step--beyond simply talking or thinking about losing weight--seems to be be one of the biggest hurdles people face. You're well past that.

I am continuing on with my healthy eating and exercise. I have had to stop running because of a sore knee (maybe I am really not a runner), but continue to pump in 6 days of 45 minutes of cardio a week with some weight training thrown in for good measure.
I have had to retire pants that fit just a month ago. I have dropped 15 lbs. I am happy with my progress, but have a long ways to go yet. Best of all, mentally, I feel great about what I am doing, and life in general!
Congrats to all the losers in this thread! It is too bad a few are trying to ruin it.

My work has recently announced a subsidy for health and wellness that can be applied to home exercise equipment and I have been looking at bikes. Does anyone have any good experience with indoor uprights? I am currently looking at this model...
It's a diamondback 910 and is fairly in-expensive but I can't find a single review on it anywhere. The features were...
Quote:
Features: - Built-in Media Center
- Adjustibility
- On-board speakers
- Multi-speed personal cooling fans
- Fold-out magazine rack
- QuickSet, one-touch program keys
- QuickSet, one-touch resistance keys
- 35 workout programs
- 32 levels of resistance
- Multiple heart rate contact sensors
- Polar compatible wireless heart rate receiver
- Multi-position handlebars
- Frictionless eddy current braking system
- Numeric keypad
- Premium on-board water bottle & holder
|
Also, any advice for indoor cardio in general would be greatly appreciated as I usually just stick to playing sports to keep in shape but as I get older, I'm finding that's not really enough.

no idea about the bike, but good idea. for indoor cardio at home i usually do sets of up and down the stairs 10 times, some jumping jacks and mock skiing (not sure how to explain that). you could also tape out a ladder on your floor and door various feet excercises running through that

Congrats to you guys on your excellent progress. Don't get discouraged if things stall on you, just push through and keep going. Give it 110%, play 60 minutes, keep your stick on the ice, etc.

@Rhettzky - Why not purchase a decent bike and get a trainer for it? You can use it year round and indoor/outdoor.
I get the built-in entertainment could be appealing but use your ipod or set the trainer up infront of the tv.

The ipod thing doesn't really do anything for me. But what is a trainer? And would a decent bike and trainer be more then the upright?
Thanks for the info!

I would highly recommend working deadlifts into your weight lifting routine if you haven't already. It truly is an amazing exercise. I know some people will argue that the squat is the best lift you can do, but for my money, that goes to the deadlift. The strength gains are just amazing. When I play soccer now, I'm running through guys that have 20lbs on me and I'm coming out on top.

Years ago when I first started working out, I only did biceps, chest, biceps and chests....

Here are my before and after pics:
Before
After
And here is how I got there:
Workout Area
The before is at 340, the after at 185. I'm down to 160-something now. So the workout area is in front of the big screen plasma, so my mind isn't on the cycling or running, but rather on the hockey game or House. My rule: I am not allowed to watch West Wing, House, Criminal Minds or LO:SVU unless I'm on the bike or treadmill.

I think a "trainer" is one of those thingy's that you can put the back wheel of a road bike on and be able to pedal and stay in one spot. I always see Triathletes using them with their bikes at the gym...

Yeah, I used to just focus on the glamour muscles as well. Outside of my arms and chest getting bigger, it really didn't do anything for me.

Good job! I also head to the gym in the morning before work. It is a great way to start the day and the gym is a lot quieter than in the evenings.
