I could see the NFL saving the Saints game for later in the season, seems to be the Saints luck when playing those northern teams. Probably early December...

This made it sound like they could let the clock expire and let the next team pick and so on until they felt like making their pick. Essentially no player in this draft was worth what the #4 pick would command monetarily. Bengals would be better off to save the money and let a few teams move in front of them, and likely still get the player they want 5-6 spots later.
I'd love to see a team do this. Right now the NFL's rookie wage scale is a big time problem. Really if you can skip a pick and jump back in when you want....I'm wondering why the hell Scott Pioli didnt' do this in 2009? Clearly he didn't like any player that much, and I suspect he could have let at least 7 other teams pick and still get Tyson Jackson if theat was the guy he really wanted.
I would think that if you opted to skip your pick than you wouldn't be able to pick again until every other team behind you had picked. Even in that scenario...many teams likely gain by not committing huge money, and having a chance to grab a decent player at that spot. The Patriots have done brilliantly with these late first, early second round guys.

The backlash from fans is what would prevent me from even entertaining that idea as an owner.
Your team just sucked their way through another bad season ( Bengals recent record aside, they have been awful for a LONG time) you are going to lose your QB and likely your top 2 receivers from last season, and you have a chance to grab a real difference maker....and you pass it up?
Seems like really iffy strategy to me.

Just read an article in the latest SI about the events that led to the death of Darrent Williams, was an interesting read. Such a sad story. I didn't follow the whole trial afterwards that closely so it may be old news, but sounds like Brandon Marshall was the intended target of the bullets(which all started because of him accidentally spraying a couple crips with Dom Perignon in a nightclub), the Denver thug who pulled the trigger got Marshall's & Williams' cars mixed up. Sounds like Marshall carries a lot of guilt about that night. What an awful thing all around.

Are NFL teams obligated to pay this years drafted rookies under the old system, or can they draft and then sign once a new structure is in place?

yet to be determined. If they play next year under the old system (which a lot of people are speculating) then yes they will have to base the draftees pay scale on that.
If there is a new CBA in place when they return, this will be addressed as it is a major talking point in the whole mess.
So in summation...the players drafted next week will still be have their rights belong to the team that drafted them, but as far as compenstaion goes, it wont be known till the two sides agree to return to playing.

His recovery time was from 4-6 weeks for a torn MCL injury. Im sure he will be recovered by the start of the season. Although im sensing that your trying to point out that a player with a torn ligament didnt play is somehow a puss...

I've said this before and I firmly believe it...that night led to the destruction of the Denver Broncos. Look at all the stuff that happened as a result....
First off, it was Al Wilson's last game...and the Broncos have never replaced his leadership.
1. Lost a potential stud CB in Darrent Williams.
2. Javon Walker loses his mind (understandably)
3. Brandon Marshall becomes an angry man jaded against the city of Denver
4. Emotionally wrecked team spirals downward and eventually Mike Shanahan pays the ultimate price.
It is interesting, yet pointless, to think what might have been had the incident never occurred.

Schedule is out for the season...that may not be played.
At any rate...it is indeed the Packers/Saints to kick things off. Rogers throws for 450 yds and 4 TD's on his way to the MVP

just noticed as well...the Packers are in Charlotte the 2nd week of the season.....I am going to start looking for tickets tomorrow.
Such an awesome day...up at 7, breakfast and coffe and read the paper, hit the road at 8:30, arrive at the stadium about 11, tailgate for 90 minutes, into the stadium, watch the Packers demolish the Panthers, head to car, home by 7 PM.

Looking at the Chiefs schedule...maybe they should just skip this season. They could be a better team than last year and still go 6-10 with the schedule they'll play this year.

The schedule is certainly tougher then last season, but I feel that the 10 win mark that was reached last year is certainly attainable again... I'm really hoping to be able to contend for the division title. The games I'm most looking forward to are the divisional match ups with the Falcons and the Saints, playing in Lambeau in late November, and the MNF game at home to the Colts.

Saints fans don't live in the past, they'd be suicidal!
I'm just excited that they finally get the Bears at home, they've played at Soldier Field the last 3 meetings.
