I'm on board with pylon's suggestion. I don't post often in the FOI area for this exact reason. I usually have a read through and then leave because of all the Canuck-trolls that ruin it. Gives me a headache.

They did that before. No one liked it.
FOI as an all purpose NHL forum with a heavy focus on the Flames is fine. It's not like changing that forums purpose would make the Canucks trolls stay away.

The best way to keep them away is to not entertain them at all. If a thread about the Sedins comes up; ignore it. If nobody wants to read it the thread will be on the 2nd page within hours.
Also, don't give the Canuck fans any ammunition. Let's say Chicago goes up 2-0 in the series; feel free to cheer on the Hawks, but don't start saying things like "suck it Canuck fans- you all suck!" Because if the Canucks come back and either tie the series or even win it; we will have all the "told you so" Canuck fans.

I agree 100% with what you are saying..but in practice this will never be the case and alway given attention.
I have to say that I agree that a sub-forum may be a good idea.

The ability to hide threads you don't want to read would also help solve this problem...

The forum software doesn't support that though, but I think there's a Firefox plugin that may do that.

God! Please make a Sub-Forum for ALL other hockey talk.
FOI should be ALL Flames and ONLY FLAMES. It is "Fire on Ice", right? Seems to make sense.
F^&#@ing Canuck-trolls.

I think we all love the Canucks fans being here secretly. Otherwise it wouldn't be that hard to just flat out ignore them if we really wanted their threads to pop up less frequently. By having them around and having both sides get provoked by the other, it allows for each of us to trash talk the otherwise and then complain afterwards.
At least, that's why we do it right?
Personally I don't mind the Canuck threads and prefer the FOI forum keeps it current format. It's a rivalry after all and keeps the forum fairly active when we can discuss all teams in the league even with it's share of rival threads.

Calgarypuck's obsession with Canuck 'trolls' is rather annoying. You are the ones who feed them. Then when they react, you tell them to 'chill out', 'Its a Flames site'. Maybe if a few more posters around here acted like adults we wouldn't have this issue.
I hate the Canucks more than I hate any other team in Sport (well, maybe not the Roughriders) but I'm not going to call a poster out for trolling because I don't agree with them. A lot of posters need to stop hiding behind their Flames allegiances and take a long look in the mirror.

Why not just create a "Canucks Season thread 2011-2012" topic? That way, Canucks fans have a place to discuss current happenings in a topic and can be hidden from other users.
Flames fans don't need to enter and read all the comments about the quality of the Sedins and how the Flames are plugs, while the Canucks fans can happily discuss how said comments are true.

It should be noted that not all Canuck fans are pains. I can think of a couple that I don't mind.

You have to base it off percentages since there are a lot more Flames fans.
Although in this case I think the percentage would still be higher. Thanks to CsinmyBlood, Zamler and whatever happened to HOOT's rational brain

This is the problem, for the better part now, I DO ignore those threads. It is the posters that chose to engage them that keep them popping to the top of the page. The Sedin baby thread is a prime example. Half of the posts were in the vein of "Who caers? teh Sedins are gayzors and lyk buttsecks!!!11!!one!!. " As true and completely factual as that statement may be, those posters even if they are Flames fans are just as bad, for keeping the thread alive. The only time I engage the Canucks fans is if they start spewing crap in a Flames thread. If you create the subforum, all the bickering, can all go into the "depths of hell" thread, or whatever it gets named.
Almost every other team forum, has a dedicated section to cover "all other teams in such and such league." If the status quo remains, perhaps the thread should just be re named "the hockey talk thread." as fire on ice, is not really an accurate title any more.

This is why I come here. I love the rivalry, and when someone takes a shot at the Canucks that makes me laugh, I enjoy it. Having lived the last 8 years in Calgary before moving here, I miss it.

How often are other threads from other teams overruning the Flames thread during the regular season though? Because there's not really that much to discuss about the Flames currently, there's not gonna be much Flames threads. I think it looks better in the off season that the forum remains looking fairly active even if it's generally because of discussion being on a broader NHL scope.

Well at least most of the back and forth neverending arguments are happening in the Canucks/Blackhawks thread.
