I don't see why they can't just call them the Manitoba Jets. I mean, they already said if the sale in Glendale went through the Coyotes would become the Arizona Coyotes.

Does anybody know if the Oakland Raiders were the only major pro team to move away and return to the same city?

Manitoba Sandbags
Winnipeg Water Pumps
Manitoba Floodplains
Within the next 10 years, the NHL will be a 26-28 team league. They will have no choice but to fold a few teams. Even if you move Atlanta to Quebec, you still have problems in Carolina, Dallas, Florida, Nashville and Columbus. Maybe Toronto takes a 2nd team, but I doubt MLSE would ever let that happen. Thats left with Kitchner/Waterloo and Hamilton.
Kansas City and Vegas are options, but the lusture will wear off after a few years, especially if the team doesn't win.

It has little to do with people outside of Canada being able to find it on a map; it has everything to do with making the people outside of Winnipeg feel like it is "their" team. It has worked for the Moose; I'm just not sure the bennefits would out weigh the nostalgia of bringing back the Jets.

Manitoba Marlins. Simply because it's so unrelated it works.
Then, make the logo a bear mauling a gang of disco midgets. Something else complete unrelated.

I sympathize with Bouw and hold no ill will towards him or Coyote fans. There just wasn't enough of them, sadly.

No matter the name used it seems technically they would still be the continuation of the original 'Jet' franchise as far as team scoring records etc. I would think.

The Jets name actually goes back to 1967 and a WHL junior team.
Not the same level, obviously, but you half wonder if there was any pressure back in the day on WHA or even NHL interests in this city to call our teams the Stampeders, owing to history.

I would have preferred even taking the WHA Cowboys name over keeping Atlanta's name. Flames refers to a historic event that happened in Atlanta.
