Indeed. Great location for the arena, but I seriously doubt they will allow the closure of Portage Avenue. It'd be like shutting down MacLeod Trail here.

My understanding the Winnipeg ownership group owns the building and a few others around the Arena.

Amount of seats are important, plus the luxury boxes and the revenue from TV deal, Parking, Concessions etc....

If True North had any concerns about the building size, they would already be well on the way to addressing (and fixing, if possible) them. They wouldn't leave it until 150ish days before the season starts.

I have nightmares about them being the Manitoba Bears or Moose.
Manitoba Jets I can deal with.

Just make them the Jets.

I really hope that if they model a new jersey after the old Jets jerseys, that they model it after the 80's version, and not the 90's version.

The 80's striping is much nicer, plus I like that logo better as well.

Chipman is on the record saying they won't be the Jets and a new name will be chosen.

No, they need a name and logo that will be applicable and easily transferable to Southern Ontario in a few years.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Atlanta now - Quebec seems like an obvious choice if they build that new rink, but what do you do with them in the short term?

Next season I think the NHL has got to deal with two more situations - Columbus was losing a decent amount of money (a little over 10 million a year) before their attendance nose dived this year and something has gotta give with the Isles, I'm expecting them to move closer in to the city into that Barclay Center.

Care to provide some official statement? He is rumoured to have said this. But there's been a lot of rumours.

I heard him say this on a radio interview with him going on to say they want a new start and new identity and not be tied to the original team. It is not online or in print anywhere so not sure if this constitutes an official statement. Take it with a grain of salt if you wish.

This would have been reported, I think you maybe heard someone else quoting a rumour to be honest.

That's quite a scoop.

With all respect I'll stick with what's reported. I'm not being confrentational... just hopeful that you're wrong

A CP regular with verified credentials and ties to Winnipeg posted a while ago that a new team in Winnipeg will be referred to as the "Manitoba" something or others.

I would have thought that since it could be the exact same franchise moving back they would try and re sell the Jets, but hey, whatever works.

I think fans would be happy to be getting a team, but mad that the name changes.

The NHL would love a brand new franchise though, then they would sell all brand new merch (more than if people could just pull out old Jets stuff)

Edit - Post 1000 - Awesome!
