According to Stephen Brunt this morning it has already been said to the future Peg owners. Just not publically yet. These guys have laid low and followed Betty's instructions to a tee. Now they suddenly feel free to do just what JB did? Yep they have been given the green light.
Brunt also said that the deal is already in place. That MH has withdrawn his offers to take less cash to buy a franchise(what a joke).
The stupidity is over. This was a NHL clown show from start to finish. Though those in the Peg who have wanted their team back are thrilled the NHL is so incredibly dumb.

This will look better for the league to end this nonsense. 15k crazy Winnipegers in a packed arena makes the league look professional and competent, compared to 8k people in a huge building in Glendale. With half of them cheering the away team.

No. Some radio station in Winnipeg is claiming that he said that. Since the Winnipeg media has shown to be as reliable as an AMC Gremlin during this whole situation, I'll wait for confirmation from a reputable source.
|
Actually Power97 took this from CJOB Winnipeg's news station. This came from the sports director of the station who has been one of the biggest opponents to the whole notion of hockey in Winnipeg. I don't know how you can say the Winnipeg media hasn't been reliable, they have just reported on the information and most sources outside of Jetsowner.com have given the facts. Lawless who broke the story about tickets going on sale was the same guy who said the deal in Phoenix was complete 5 or 6 times.
Keep up the good work though.

It will be interesting to see how the league handles the divisional realignment.

I think they had it ready for last year with Colorado moving to the pacific and Winnipeg moving into the Northwest.

Scott Taylor coming right up on Fan 960 . . .
Smart people are waiting for an announcement - people should cool it.
There is an obvious problem in Phoenix - but there is no deadline.
ESPN reports NHL has a hired a F/T person to help close deal with Glendale.
Sources on the move are all un-named.
True North wants to gauge support before buying team.
True North was two days away from holding a press conference last May 2010 announcing a move.
US owners don't want to go to Winnipeg if they don't have to.
Games will sell-out for 2-3 years. After that, team needs to be winning.
What is going on in Phoenix? - how do you explain the amount of effort the NHL has put into PHO, to lose $30 Million per year? This makes no sense.

Actually was in May, Glendale then said they would pick up the tab on another year.

Ken Campbell of the Hockey News is reporting via Fox Sports that the deal is more or less done when Hulsizer's bid is finished.
http://msn.foxsports.com/nhl/story/P...innipeg-041511
What's odd in this is the renovations to add 2500 seats to the MTS Centre. I thought they had always claimed that it wasn't possible? And if it is possible, when would they do them? It doesn't sound like a project that could be completed in a couple of months. So where would the team play while renovations are being done?

I've heard True North is happy with the size of the arena. A larger arena would reduce demand for tickets. They feel 15,000 is perfect for the size of Winnipeg.

15,000 is just about right for Winnipeg. Keeps the arena feeling full for fans and it's better than a sub-10,000 turnout in the 17,125 seat Jobing.com arena.

I can't access it at work but Chipman was quoted as saying there was no need to add more seats to the arena as it would just lessen ticket prices and he was happy with the amount generated with 15000. Was from the Free Press 2010.
I don't buy much into the Hockey News article either.

This means that a Bouwmeester Stastny trade wouldn't be in the division anymore!
Get the ball rolling!

I guess it's not the number of seats that is important for the health of the franchise but the number of luxury boxes they can fit in?

15,000 is plenty. It's similiar to the Montreal Alouette model. Smaller stadium always sold out, high demand and high prices. Works for them and will work in Winnipeg.

I was wondering how long it would be before we saw a ######ed "trade Bouwmeester" post in this thread...
The location and parcel of land that MTS is on makes any kind of expansion - especially a 2500 seat expansion - virtually impractical. They would certainly have to raise the roof in addition to building outward, which would shut the building down for probably an entire year. Not financially viable.

You can add 2500 seats easily. They will dangle from the roof, and you will pay a 'premium' to dangle from a seat tied to a rope 41 games a year. Getting to the concession might be difficult, but hey, that's why hover packs are being invented.

Plus, to move outwards would require closing down a couple of roads. The arena is built in a small city block.
