Pass. Don't want even want to see Vancouver in the same area when the Stanley Cup is there.

Yep, the only Stanley Cup finals they and their fans should see is on NHL 11.

I hope Bettman puts the gun to gdale's head and forces this issue one way or the other.

So sick of this

Nothing will be made public until the Coyotes' season is over.

They can't say "The team is leaving" right now because it would all but plummet playoff ticket sales into the ground. And they can't say "The team is staying put" because that's a lie. So they have to give vague "We continue the process" and "these reports are incorrect" responses.

Yup, whatever is happening, I'm sure the NHL is working VERY hard to keep everything under wraps until Phoenix is eliminated.

In 1996 Jets had 3 home playoff sold right out White Noise playoff games after a full year of knowing that they were moving.

Ironic that it was against the Red Wings.

And if the DET-PHX series continues like Game 1...that won't be too long from now.

Attendance for the regular season was brutal though.

Same thing happened with the Calgary Cannons. Attendance dropped 25% in the final year after we knew the team was gone, but the final series was a complete sellout.

Phoenix would be a different issue, however. Pull the rug out right now, and people might just say "F it" rather than fall back on the nostalgia of a team they've only had 15 years.

Wouldn't Quebec have a larger base from which to draw fans long term? Just saying...
Not really. Winnipeg is only a little bit smaller than Edmonton. The arena seats just over 15K, but as has been mentioned many times, the fact that TNSE owns the MTS Centre and takes in all revenue generated by the hockey team and other events such as concerts etc, it off-sets the lack of seating, and in fact results in every seat in the building being a far better value than say, the Staples Center, which has several thousand more seats which come with infinitely inferior sightlines.

Add to that TNSE also owns local rinks in the Winnipeg area that are forecasted to also offset some costs.

Oh, and the 17th richest man on earth might help to combat any fluctuations in the dollar. And frankly, the dollar argument can be made about any team in Canada; the Habs, Canucks, Flames, Oilers, and Sens have all faced financial issues in the last 15 years.

They won't end up back where they did 16 years ago because a) they have an acceptable building. It isn't the biggest, but it can work. b) they have unbelievable wealth behind them FROM Manitoba. c) the salary cap and revenue sharing ensure something resembling competitive balance, and while they may not be a cap team, I can definitely see the team not set up to receive max revenue sharing. d) There is the bonus that people in Winnipeg WANT a team.

So yeah. That's that.

On a side note, I'm going to buy a Jets jersey the second they go on sale; what's a better player to get, Yandle or Turris? I'm leaning towards Yandle ATM.

Really good questions sir. I wonder why this has never been discussed yet in any of the previous threads or 47 pages of this thread.

Simple reason, Quebec has no arena. If a team has to be relocated this summer. Again who knows if a team will actually move.

Quebec is simply not an option and it may not be an option for a few years.....

I plan on getting a Turris home and a visitor Bryzagalov... if he stays

Edmonton has a metro population of just over 1 million. Winnipeg has a metro population of just under 700 thousand. Edmonton is about 43% bigger. That's not a little bit bigger.

Saying that Winnipeg is viable because ownership has other business interests makes no sense.

David Thomson is not from Manitoba. He's from Toronto which is a far better market to relocate an NHL team to.

Sorry if this has already been answered, but what happens to the players who may refuse to move to Winnipeg (Doan)? Suspension by the team?

I really doubt any of them would refuse to go with the team. And yes any that did would be suspended for contract violation.

I doubt it as well however I would not be surprised to see a few ask for a trade.

Me thinks the league has had its hand forced and will have to 'fess up.
