Glendale Pursues Expensive Hockey Folly
http://www.courant.com/news/opinion/...2923603.column
Warren Meyer of Forbes.com calculates that Glendale's new plan would bring the city's spending to almost $400 million on a team valued at $134 million — a team that has lost money in each of its 15 years here.

Wasn't he the guy during the season that said we had traded Jarome to the Rangers?
*Edit - he was the guy who said the Owners told Feaster to trade Iginla by the deadline.

He sounds too Eklund-ish to me.

Nice to give himself a little out there.

this is shaping up to be a great few weeks/months for hockey in canada. hopefuly we can witness a vancouver/montreal final, the jets return, and maybe a year from now a nords return as well. just fantastic.
what a far cry from the late 90's when hockey in canada was becoming a luxury. teams couldnt afford to keep their stars... teams moved... bad times. i give huge credit to the flames cup run and the lock out followed by an edmonton/ottawa cup run for the resurgance of hockey in canada.
cant stop smiling at work today.

Mr. Bettman, please sign these.
What are they?
They are the tentative relocation papers.
What about the real relocation papers?
No, we will sign those later, after the tentative papers. We can't be too hasty.

OK then in my scenario how about Montreal wins in game 7, and massive riots break out in both cities?
Otherwise I agree how can anyone NOT want 2 more teams in Canada??

Well, no offense to the Jets fans, but how is moving the 'yotes back to Winnipeg going to work long term... where is the fan base? And the dollar isn't going to stay around par with the American dollar, so wouldn't they end right back up where they were years ago when the moved the first time?
Wouldn't Quebec have a larger base from which to draw fans long term? Just saying...

I personally don't care about the money just happy to see Winnipeg back in the league I don't care if the team just makes a 5 dollar profit, not my league, I don't pay the players cheques, Im just happy to have more Canadian teams.
crossing my fingers the Jets are back

The Bettman ultimatum
NHL commissioner will tell Glendale, Hulsizer to do deal now -- or else
http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/opi...119839174.html
The next move will be Bettman's and it will likely come in the next five to 10 days. He'll need Winnipeg's help again and it's quite possible that talks between the league and True North have begun anew.

|
Good to see that True North is willing and able to play hard ball...
I really hope that True North is dropping what they are willing to pay for the Franchise over time .
The NHL's only other option is to throw more money down the toilet or open up the Hamilton market. The Hamilton market will generate a lot less than what Bettman is telling the owners. Not too many billionaire hockey fans out there and while Hamilton would likely be a viable market there is still a huge risk built in with the huge purchase price
