I'm missing something but my recollection goes...
Purcey gave up a walk and two singles to load, Then Dotel walked in two runs, then Rzep walked in a run he got a groundball but it squeeked between Escobar and third bringing in another run, then Camp pitched a DP ball and they got out of the inning ahead by a run. 9th inning Camp stays in gives up a Double, sac bunt moves the runner to third and brings Ichiro to the plate, they give Ichiro the intentional base on balls and he then steals second. Next batter doubles to the gap bringing in the winning run.

He was thinking that with the tying run at third it might be better to take the bat out of the hands of the best hitter in baseball? I mean... it's friggin' Ichiro. Probably should have used Rauch in the 9th thou, Camp is a really good at getting a timely groundball (seriously, can anyone else order up a Double Play like that guy?) but he's being overused and doesn't have overpowering stuff to begin with. Ya I know Rauch was the only one left in the bullpen meaning that they'd have to get a starter to come in on relief if the game ended up in extra's but that doesn't strike me as all that bad.
Also, when Fransisco is all rehabbed up and ready to go I hope they DFA Purcey... that guys been awful. Nix has been a pleasant surprise thus far thou.

Well, Romero is being out-pitched by Pineda tonight (so far).
I hope the marathon loss to the Angels wasn't the start of something bad.

The Jays designated Purcey earlier today, AA doesn't want to lose him for nothing so he expects to trade him. Looks like the Astros are interested.

The West Coast has never been kind to the Jays. Maybe a good idea to start the season and get one of these trips out of the way early.

Well our bats finally came alive and we put up a win. At least we salvaged something out of that series.

I can't believe Purcey is 28 already... It seems like just yesterday we were talking about that 95MPH, Left handed, Fireballer we just drafted.
Sad that it just couldn't pan out. Decent tools, no tool box.

Went to the game today. Safeco is a beautiful park. Lots of Jays fans, including a large group wearing Canucks jerseys throwing middle fingers to the crowd and throwing stuff onto the field, really surprising behaviour.....

I went to see a Red Sox game at Safeco. I really liked the stadium a lot better then the Metrodome that's for sure.

Love series' at Fenway - going to be fun to watch.
On the Purcey thing, I am really surprised they announced he is getting traded before exploring deals - doesn't that weaken your position significantly, especially for a guy who a bunch of teams actually do want?
This would have been better after their losing streak but I got a laugh;

If you read the Jays blogs already probably already caught it.

Once he is designated for assignment then it's public knowledge that he'll be traded - and trading him before they needed the roster spot wouldn't have increased Purcey's trade value.

yep, its the way baseball works.
Jays have 10 days to either trade him or they could lose him via waivers.
In Purcey's case, if he is not traded I would bet he is taken via Waivers.

Just seems like you weaken your negotiating position when you tell the world, well we're done with this guy before you try to deal him - I guess like you said the roster spot holds a lot of value for them and they don't want dead weight on the MLB roster for a month quietly negotiating for an asset that's not super valuable all to get a low A outfielder with a 10% shot at the bigs.

Lefty with upside and a plus fastball? Gone for sure.
MLBTR listed about 8 teams that only have one lefty reliever.
I'm actually hoping we can get something back for him (or maybe even unload Rivera's corpse) - I also have my fingers crossed to package him with some other assets in a bigger move.

I hear where you're coming from - it's different in other sports.
The Jays need to clear a roster spot and decide they don't want Purcey anymore. They could shop him around as you suggest (certainly the norm for the NHL) while sending down someone else.
But the best trade block is waiving him - once he's DFA then every GM in the league knows that he will change teams in the next week. Teams that want him are going to make legitimate offers because they are confident that Ant will take the best offer (lest he be lost on waivers for nothing).

Yep totally agree....
Rivera is the next guy who has to go. I am betting he will be very difficult to move. Good thing is he has only 1 year on his contract.

The way Rivera is hitting and running, if no one will take him I'd like to see him get sent down - if someone even claims him great and regardless bring Eric Thames or Cooper up for a while and stick them in the DH slot rotating with the other OFs or Lind.
Are there CBA/Contract clauses that would prevent a guy on Rivera's contract from being sent to AAA in baseball?
If you don't want a young guy DHing part of the time, bring up Shealy once he gets going, at least you get effort out of him. Rivera reminds me a lot of Kotalik this past season, outsider perspective but he just seems totally unmotivated out there.

Interesting call on that foul ball/close to a home run. Looked like it hit the top of the wall, to the inside of the foul line on the wall (fair ball) but to the right of the actual foul poll (foul ball).

That's a very weird line.. it's in the wrong place.
But I guess if the ball is right of the pole, then it's a foul ball.
