Default Got to Love Vision's Extended Warranty

So I bought a Sharp 46 LCD over 3 years ago from Vision's. Paid over $2100 for it (and that was at cost, it retailed $2900). My buddy made sure I got a 4yr warranty.

a few months ago, we started getting a thin green line on the left side of the screen that would pop up for about 3 mins, while the tv was warming up.

So I phoned up Vision's last week and they directed me to a service shop that they use. A tech came up and calculated a $3400 repair. Of course Vision's said no and went with the "come get a new tv" route.

They told me they had a 2011 Samsung LED model for me. I wasn't very happy about that but they had no Sharp's in stock as their new stock hadn't come in yet. But they said just go in and look at it and if I don't like it then we could work something out.

I went and looked at it, hated it and started looking around. I was in luck as this store had received it's shipments of Sharp tv's and I was quickly impressed. You see, i love Sharp's light absorbtion screen's which Samsung doesn't compare. (Sony is good as well but i didn't see a Sony that I liked).

The store looked at the cost of both tv's and there was a difference of $150. So I said, no problem! This new tv is the latest on the market and can be upgraded for 3D (which is no use to me but still a perk!).

So after almost 4 years (my warranty was up in Sept), I got a new TV for $150 and after buying the new warranty, the total came to $450. And here's the kicker -- they let me keep my old tv. Which, except for 3mins of start up, is a great tv.

Needless to say we are very happy with Vision's and now so is my Father inlaw!

Wait a good story about Visions? I didn't know they had those.

No matter how many great stories I hear, they will never undo the pain caused by their commercials on the fan.

The one thing i like about the warranty also, if you don't use it then you get it back in store credit. That's a big plus as well.

I used to hate Vision's 10 yrs ago, it was a store that just seemed ..... a bit off. But now, for any audio/video stuff, this is only place I go. Plus, you can haggle with the sales reps.

x2 for the warranty being great. I just had my old 46" Aquos and home theater system come off its 3 year warranty I never had to make a claim on it so I submitted and received a $499 credit. You can only use the credit for 1/2 of your purchase up to a max of $499 off.

So I sold my old TV for $600 tossed in the $499 credit and haggled with the salesman to get an extra $200 off a 55" Vizio TV that was on sale ended up paying $988 for a new 55" Vizio LED TV. Visions has a big thumbs up from me.

^ I agree completely. It is really a decent store nowadays. If you know what you are looking for and specifics about what you want, then you can really haggle the price down and get a solid deal. The other side of it is if you don't know about the technology you are buying you won't get that good price.

I got a 1200$ TV for 950$ including the 4 year warranty plus a 90$ power bar/surge protector. I would totally go there again.

That's the problem. While I have personally had nothing but good from them; a buddy of mine who's English leaves quite a bit to be desired got a pretty bad deal on a clearance TV. Or more accurately, got sold the "wrong" TV for his needs. While the TV did have a great picture; it was simply a monitor for a high end audio system. It had one single input; one HDMI. Great if this TV is going into a videophile's media room- bad if the person buying it only had basic cable at the time.

I had to go back with him to get it exchanged.

So unlike somewhere like Memory Express where I shop and feel good about sending my mom in there; Visions does require you to know your stuff a bit to not get burned.

How do they make money like this? Doesn't this essentially mean you have an extra 3 years or however long the warranty is for free?

In store credit if you don't use the warranty?! That's amazing. What's the value? 1 for 1 on the original cost of the warranty?

1 for 1. Memory express is not always awesome went in looking to compare their projectors and the guy was useless. Went back weekend after was same guy working so I won't go back to memory express to talk about projectors. I believe my visions warranty is up that I got from buying my HTIB system off kijiji. I pretty much am getting the full value I paid for the system back from the guys warranty credit.

It's 1 for 1 but there's a catch. It can only be 50% of the total price of whatever you're buying.

For example if you paid $200 for warranty and never use it, you could buy a $400 item and use the $200 credit, but if you bought a $300 item, you'd only be able to use $150 of your credit.
