Its not the snow... its the unusally cold weather we have had, normally the snow melts away and more snow comes... this year it just didnt get warm enough to melt anything.

I remember last winter during the olympics, there was no snow on the ground and the days were pretty warm and sunny. (it got colder of course).

I'll admit, it was nice running with the dogs in the snow today, sun is nice to see again, big old alberta sky!

It was definitely bad for outdoor hockey this winter, man the thermometer was all over the place. Would get a huge dump and be freezing, then it'd be warm & melt everything and warp the ice. Rinse, repeat. Seemed like it was either in the -20's and too cold to play, or around freezing and above where it'd F up the ice. Least I've played in years this past winter.

How long have you lived here? It's pretty standard.

Haven't lived in the city since '04 but I still remember in '01 when we got a huge snowstorm in late MAY. It was so bad that cars couldn't get up the hills, they were stuck all over the place. I got stuck on Millrise Dr and had to get pushed up by a good samaritan. That's obviously a severe case but it seems to be the norm there. March is usually the worst for this, which tends to bleed into April. The only thing Calgary weather is consistent in is its inconsistency.

My whole life, i get that the random snowfalls are standard, but being 6-8 degrees below average temps is not...

Meh... Environment Canada is saying only 5cm. Let's hope most of it doesn't accumulate and is gone by the end of the weekend.

It's called an AVERAGE temperature, highs and lows. We dont say whats the standard temperature for the day.

Environment Canada has the daily highs and lows for every day going back for longer than you've been alive: http://www.climate.weatheroffice.gc....StationID=2205

The only consistency is the inconsistency.

The high on this date last year was 1.8°C, two years ago it was 14°C, and today it'll be 5°C. The "normal" for April 12 is 11°C.

In 2003, the high on April 24 was 22.1°C. Two days later, we got 32.2cm of snow, and there was no snow left on the ground on May 1.

Is it pathetic that reading this makes me kinda homesick? Sure it's s****y weather, but its OUR s****y weather. Haha maybe if I was living somewhere a little more tropical than central Alberta I would have a different take on such info.
