I have seen a lot of bad diets over the years, but hCG Diet sets the new standard for irresponsibility. If you thought 1000-1200 calories a day was tough to handle, your head will spin – and your stomach will growl – if you try to follow this 500 calorie a day torture test.
The fact that this diet is enjoying any kind of success and has garnered a following serves as proof that people have totally lost their way when it comes to feeding themselves. This is a barbaric, crude, savage, and inhuman diet. There are no good reason to abide by this nonsense. Stay away from it.
http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/?p=4813#more-4813
The ASBP recently issued an official policy statement that HCG does not work for weight loss and that the HCG diet is not recommended. The last speaker on the program challenged the ASBP’s position. He claimed that the “con” studies were flawed, that more studies are needed, and that meanwhile HCG should only be used by physicians with special training and expertise (like him). One of his slides said “It is OK to use a placebo;” he added the caveat “as long as it works.” That statement can be criticized both on the basis of the meaning of the word “placebo” and on the consensus of medical ethicists that using placebos is unethical.

Numerous clinical trials have shown HCG to be ineffectual in producing weight loss. HCG injections can induce a slight increase in muscle mass in androgen-deficient males. The diet used in the Simeons method provides a lower protein intake than is advisable in view of current knowledge and practice. There are few medical literature reports favorable to the Simeons method; the overwhelming majority of medical reports are critical of it. Physicians employing either the HCG or the diet recommended by Simeons may expose themselves to criticism from other physicians, from insurers, or from government bodies.

Very much the North American way of wanting the results without putting in the effort.

Losing weight isn't about effort, it's about willpower. If you can figure out a method to do something easier, why would you want to do it a more difficult way? Of course, in this case that's assuming that this method works with no adverse reactions.

That's the problem.
There are no sustainable, healthy, easy ways to lose weight. There's one way, and it takes a lot of effort to not only lose the weight, but you have to maintain it every day; as soon as you slip, the weight comes back on.
Every drug, treatment, anything has adverse reactions at this point in time.

I love how the one lady is going back on it to lose the weight she regained after going off the diet. It's unsustainable.
It's odd how willing people are to go to extremes to avoid a relatively balanced diet and exercise. Geez, it's not like you even have to be perfect all the time. Just consistent.

A lady I work with is doing this... she says she loses a pound a day. She says the reason she's doing it is to get to a weight so that she can excercise and keep the weight off. She says she hasn't had an issue with being tired or hack lack of energy. They just can't eat anything for those 500 calories... there's only certain fruits they can eat and no carbs.
She said there's only 2 doctors in the city that perscribe this diet... Gee, I wonder why?
I know I'd like to lose 10-15 pounds, but no frickin' way would I do this.

I went on a diet last year. It was called "stop eating so much you fat ass". Took me about a week to stop being really hungry all the time but after that it wasn't overly hard.
If you're 200 lbs and go on this diet when it finishes you're going to eat like a 200 lbs person. What are these people really expecting to happen?

I was going to make falafels for dinner, but I think it's safe to say this thread killed that idea.

I honestly thought this was about Chick Peas and there was a spelling mistake.
This "diet" is nasty. Good thing nurses are doing it.

Reminded me of a Richard Jeni bit:
Quote:
Hey how you doin' thanks for tunin' in. Hey listen, if you're overweight you've got to try my diet plan that's worked for millions of people with your problem. It's called 'Stop Eatin You Fat #######'. Now here's a guy who writes me a letter he says, "Hey Joey, how do I know if I am a fat #######? That's a very good question. Here's 3 ways to know:
1 - When you go to a buffet, do the waitresses put on riot hats?
2 - Do you ever find yourself short of breath after combing your hair?
3 - Do you ever put money in your front pocket and realize you ain't wearing no pants?
Chances are you're a fat #######. So you send me, Joey, 1 buck and I'll send you my tape. It ain't video tape it ain't audio tape. You know what this is? Scotch tape. Take it a piece and put it over your mouth so the friggen' ice cream can't get in there and watch the pounds melt right off ya.

The "nurses are doctors" stigma always surprises me. Nurses aren't educated in diagnosing/medicine, but patient care and basic treatments.
Although you'd think they'd still have some logic and see what's wrong with this diet.

If you're willing to try this to lose weight to a 'manageable level' as was previously mentioned in the thread, why not just get lipo to get you there, then start excercising. Seems mildly less ######ed.
