Cancer fraudster given 15 month sentence
Ashhley Kirilow who frauded sympathetic supporters by stealing $12,000 dollars by faking cancer and doing her own fund raising gets 15 months, of course 10 months of it are house arrest, and she'll probably never spend a day in jail.

To me thats a complete joke.

Unfortunately we live in a country where we can screw around each other, and get a slap on the wrist, the only criminals that do any real time are those that screw the government.

She should be forced to visit patients in an Ontario Cancer clinic for the term of her sentence. While she is there she should be wearing a sign that clearly states how she stole money from her supporters. If you're not going to send her to jail then having her humilated on a daily basis would better than house arrest.
Our justice system is a joke and her sentence does nothing to deter others from doing the same thing.

Canadian jails are full. I'd rather fill her spot with someone who poses a legit threat to society. What she did is disgusting but I can see the reasoning behind the sentence.

What happens when one is sentenced to house arrest: are they bound to their home 24 hours a day? How do they live, get groceries, earn money, pay their bills, etc.? Anyone in the know?

I'm perfectly fine with House Arrest in this case.
Honestly, I think she should have to give $12,000 worth of volunteer hours for the Cancer Foundation (etc). How's $10 an hour worth of value sound for 10 hours a week?

Generally speaking, you are free to go about the business of supporting yourself (a job, groceries, etc) but not much else. Some people will wear ankle bracelets, some just check-in at prescribed times. But basically, you sit at home unless otherwise approved by your case worker.

Not to take anything away from the terrible thing she did, but if she is really pychologically challenged, then she needs help.
Having said that, does giving her house arrest and pumping her full of drugs accomplish that? Her parents claim that they have been trying to find her help for years. She should have been sentenced to therapy at least.

Her life is probably ruined already anyways, any company looking to hire her will do a background check and the red flags will cause them to look elsewhere.
I bet all her friends have abandoned her, her parents as well...
She totally deserves it though.
