Default How much is your utility bill?

During this past winter my utility bill has ranged from $300-500...which seems pretty high. Even the past month which was relatively warm rang in at $343.

It's a decently sized house but seems poorly insulated.

Here's the breakdown of my last bill..Feb 20-March 20 ($343 total)

Electricity: $100 (Easymax Fixed)
Natural Gas: $159 (Easymax Floating)
Water: $36
Wastewater/Drainage: $30
Waste/Recycling: $15

My last heating bill was 242, my last electrical was 165, and my water/sewer/etc is flat rate provided I stay under on water at about 52/month.

1950 sqft older home. We're thinking about tearing down the walls and putting in insulation next year. I think $80 of our electrical is in fees before we use any power.

Used Spot Power for past 6 months for electricity. Thinking about going with 1 or 2 year fixed rate. There has been way too much fluctuation at floating rate for my liking during those 6 months, esp. last month with some coal plants and lines shutting down.

It got to $50 one month and I was freaking out.

I live in an 800 sq ft condo. My rent covers heat, water, condo fees and all the rest of it. Only real household bills I have are Enmax and Shaw.

We have two 'residences' - one occupied, and one not (waiting for the ground to thaw to have it removed and rebuild in its place).

Our residence is 300-500 in the winter months; it's a 1950's bungalow with horrifically bad insulation. The empty house, with everything unplugged, water shut off, and kept at 45 degrees to keep the pipes from freezing, costs 145-160 per month -- and we're using incidental amounts of electricity. Can't wait for the furnace to be able to be turned off. I think I pay $95 even if I use zero gas and water.

Wow, mines about $140.00 with the hottube shutdown, $40.00 seems impossible to me, you must live in the dark and eat out 99% of the time.

My last Direct Energy bill was $8.09 ...

I think I must have paid the previous one twice or something.... think it's normally ~$130

I poop lots, so my sewage bill was over $200 by itself.

That's about the same as ours for February 14 to March 16th (3000 sq ft, 3 people).

The usage dates are Jan 27th to Feb 24th. The highest we have been this winter is $335 and that was over Christmas when we had family here.

What are you doing to get to $500?

Mine's around $200-$300 with everything. One person, 1,800 sqft. Electricity is the killer one for me rather than gas since I keep my thermostat at 17.5 degrees all the time. I have a 75 gallon electric water tank, which I'm sure accounts for at least 1/3 of my electricity use, since I don't use much electricity anywhere else.

-water
-heat/gas

-recycling
-security

The vast majority of your electric bill is your fridge. Turn it off and your bill will be halved at least.
