Was it between a museum or an arena? I didn't see any mention of arenas in the article.

Its tough to play hockey in museums, but I guess you gotta use what you get.

Norm!
Museums enrich the minds, Hockey Arenas enrich millionaires and billionaires.

No. That is how it is framed by the OP and I'm sure others will try to as well.

Sidenote: Did you EVER really think you'd get to make a "Yes, Minister" reference on the internet?
The show ended in 1988.....the same year ARPANET received it's first T1 Backbone, and the Intel 386SX was released.

I don't really understand the objection here......I don't think there's anything wrong with the Province saying "Yes" to public infrastructure and "No" to private enterprise.
I LOVE my Calgary Flames, but I'm not really willing to sacrifice some parks, roads and/or public buildings just to buy them a place I'm not allowed into for free.

^^ Typically a museum or exhibit will have regular reduced/free fare days, although every facility is different.
The point was also that other buildings and facilities (parks, libraries, etc) and infrastructure (roadways and pathways) are built using that money as well.

Ok, provincial government, how about funding a similar project in Calgary? Perhaps the EPCOR centre expansion?

All I can get
I'm in favor of any publicly-funded infrastructure project that spites the Edmonton Oilers.

Is it a Museum to showcase the Oilers' accomplishments?

Oh please this. What a sweet proposal that renovation/expansion is.
