I hate to sound like an idealist, but the arts and humanities are supposed to train and prepare one's soul for living a good and virtuous life. At the time I finished a major in philosophy during my undergrad I felt a little like it was a ridiculous thing to have studied and was glad I did another major in linguistics. Afterwards though, I realize that philosophy was kind of an awesome undergrad degree because it prepared my critical thinking skills and intellectual rigour adequately for all kinds of good life decisions afterwards. In retrospect, I almost feel like everyone should have to do philosophy for a while.

Amazing 3/3 kids with University degrees and top end jobs coming from a hard working blue collar up bringing attending this school.

We were bullied, we kept score, we failed and learned from it, we didn't get participation awards for everything. We got in trouble, but were more scared of the trouble we'd get in at home so we respected our teachers.

Parents have the biggest say in how well a kid does in school. Work ethic, dedication to learning, nutrition, support.

As long as you aren't JohnnyO the ref from superleagues I am happy for you.

Also a K-9 svdp alumni here, but in my year most of us ended up at St. Francis for high school and out of a big group of us perhaps only 6-7 ended up in university as far as I could tell.

Laughably outdated thinking, cowboy. There's plenty of good jobs out there in the creative field, whether it be in architecture, advertising, graphic design, film/video etc. You do realize that getting an art degree doesn't mean you're going to be a lazy hippie painting watercolors right?

People might not be making doctor/lawyer money, but they have the opportunity to make a pretty solid living. Just like with any degree, it's not what you have, it's what you do with it. And besides, the last thing the world needs is another frickin lawyer.
