Yeah, the bootrom exploit is A4 only. It got patched on the A5.
There was an iPad 2 JB in the works, but it was patched with 4.3.1. Since then they have been trying to find another exploit =(

Rumor has it that an exploit for iPad 2 has been found, and very soon (in a few weeks) you will have your Jailbreak.
Take it for what it's worth, but I am sure they will find a Jailbreak for iPad 2.

Jailbreaking was pretty lame. It made my phone run like ####. Batter ran out quicker and all the decent apps in Cydia you have to pay for just like apple.
Lame.

Huh, I was under the impression that Jailbreaking an iPhone gave you all the apps available for free. I had a buddy at work telling me he could get all the games (like Angry Birds) for free. I am glad I checked in here before I convinced my wife to Jailbreak her new iPhone 4.

That is possible with jailbreaking, but it is piracy.

Some of the apps are amazing, like Lockinfo. Sure some apps will crap out the battery, but so do some app store apps like Skype.
There are some amazing apps for the jailbreak crowd that do not have a awful effect on battery life.

I'm still waiting for the Greenpoison release.
I keep searching Google to see if the RC has been released or PC, but I'm not finding anything.

I was expecting slot more from jailbreaking. It was really disappointing.

You don't just jailbreak and get all the cool stuff. First you jailbreak then you go find and install the cool stuff. I wouldn't go back to an unbroken phone now.
PS: Lol @ piracy. Now I feel all guilty.

Don't you have to download and install everything through Cydia?

There are other sources you can add via Cydia.

I'm looking at buying an iPhone 4 locked to another carrier - can someone explain to me what the current state of unlocking is? As I understand it, it's pretty difficult with any up-to-date iPhone unless they've preserved their baseband?

The current Sn0wbreeze will jailbreak for iOS 5 (on most devices), but it's a tethered jailbreak (meaning you have to have your device connected to your computer to boot it).
We should find out in a few days if there's an untethered one ready to go, they wouldn't release it before iOS goes live since they'd tip their hand and give Apple time to patch it before release.

There is an untethered one, but I think they *might* wait till 5.0.1 which will fix some minor bugs....which is destined to happen.
It happened with iOS 4 within days. Now that updates are OTA and incremental it could come rather quick.
